H&N Sport's Brass Tipped Hornet Pellets

Okay, I’ll admit, I’ve never really spent much time with a pellet gun.  But after watching the below video, my interest is piqued. The existing line (which was available in .177 and .22) is now available in .25 caliber.  For hunting medium sized birds and game they say.  Rupturing apples and potatoes, I would say so…

Muzzle mounted laser shot analysis

A fellow by the name of Heinz Reinkemeier has a public Facebook Page where he has uploaded a number of fascinating videos to watch, of airgun competitors in Europe. From what I can tell, he appears to be German and is also either a coach or a manufacturer of these muzzle laser devices, but he is certainly a talented videographer. The laser devices I’m talking about are programmed into a computer system that allows someone to view the actual movement of the muzzle, during the course of fire. So even the most minute movement of the rifle by the competitor is sensed up to the point of discharge, wherein the movement marker changes color to purple from the previous green. Thus, you can visually see where the shooter is putting their sights on target, and how they are going through the steps of breathing, aiming, and finally firing the air gun. They look like a fantastic learning tool, for serious competitive shooters in this sort of setting (as opposed to more fluid shooting competitions). It is apart of a start up company/app/contraption called the MEC Shot App and I assume Heinz is a developer of it. Unfortunately my German is as good as my ancient Latin, and can’t research as much about this interesting device as I could, if any of our German readers are willing, it would be great to have some input on this in the comments section!

Visiting Remington Arms: 200 Years Of Gunmaking History

Most readers are aware that Remington is celebrating its 200 year in business in 2016. This will be a multi part article of the tour of the Ilion plant as well as the new Huntsville plant. I want to start with Remington history and the tour of the Remington museum which is just next door to the plant.

[SHOT 2016] SIG USA Airguns

While everyone was focusing on the SIG MPX, MCX, and the Legion handguns at the SIG booth, the company had a whole section of new airguns that they are producing. Not airsoft like a number of companies add their name to, but actual .177 caliber CO2 powered airguns. Currently they were offering the P226 Navy, P250, MPX SBR, and an MPX with a faux suppressor as patterns for the airguns. All are offered in various configurations of Flat Dark Earth, Green, and Black. The important thing to note about these airguns is that they are 1:1 replicas. Thus, for training value, their airgun 226s and 250s will take current lights, holsters, and many other accessories that will fit to the actual firearms that they are imitating. All are made from aluminum, but what I found most interesting was the way that SIG configured the CO2 cartridges and the magazine feeds. The MPX versions have the CO2 cartridge hidden in the tubular stock, while the handgun versions have them hidden in the rear portion of the pistol grip with no excess cartridge locking material hanging out. The handguns have a 8 shot rotary system on both sides of the magazine, so once fired, the shooter can change the magazine around and have another 8 shots. However with the MPX, it is essentially a belt fed pellet system, that is pushed up via the action of the charging handle, giving the shooter 30 pellets to shoot from a single magazine.

New Crosman Pioneer Airbow

It may not be a firearm but it’s a weapon well worth a second look especially for hunters. New from Crosman is the Pioneer Airbow, which is technically a bow due to the simple fact that it shoots arrows but is operated like a gun with a configuration similar to that of a bullpup. The Pioneer Airbow features an integrated pressure regulator and is powered by compressed air. Filled to its maximum of 3000 psi the new Airbow can fire 8 shots – full-size arrows and full-weight broadheads. The two most interesting things about this are the first and most obvious fact that this is basically a bullpup that shoots arrows and that these arrows move with impressive speed.

Gamo Releases "Big Cat" 1250 Air Rifle

I swear Gamo is like Mercedes, BMW, and Audi following the “One Sausage, Many Lengths” product philosophy. Latest to the sausage fest is the “Big Cat” 1250 DX break-action air rifle. I’m sorry, but I utterly dislike the name. .177 caliber can hardly be called “Big Cat” when its more like a tamed pussy cat. While fast for a break-action, I could hardly see this taking down a tiger.

Their new air pistol is designed for both target practice and varmint control, and if you doubt the ability of an air gun to take down game, believe me, it’s not only doable but impressive – the right air rifle can take down deer.

Modified Nerf Taser Darts

Caleb Kraft used the guts from a disposable camera flash and shoved them into a Nerf Mega Dart. The demonstration on the copper tape was more exciting then the live test fire. So it isnt a true taser. You do not become incapacitated, but you do receive a good shock. I have my doubts that this will work thru clothing. Unless he puts pointed barbs to penetrate thru clothing.

Air rifle production itself did not begin until midway through the 20th century, but once they were being manufactured their popularity grew and exportation began.

How to make a pen-sized airgun

“The pen is mightier than the sword” said every gun (and sword) hating journalist ever. But if you are in need of an ultra concealable weapon to punch holes in tin cans and don’t want to file the paperwork and pay the taxes for .22LR firing pen, you should consider  hw97karbine’s very cleverly designed air powered pen gun. He explains how to build the airgun on Instructables, the only catch being that a lathe is required.

Selecter Versatile Defensive Weapon

Bryan S. sent me these pics of an odd defensive weapon. G-L Industries, in New Jersey, made this semi-automatic pistol for defense purposes. It is sort of predecessor to the paintball gun. It uses a CO2 cartridge for propulsion and is loaded by a 5 rd box magazine. It uses a variety of ammunition: stinger, noise, tear gas and fluorescent dye.

Survey Says? Lack of 22LR Ammo Leads to Increased Airgun Usage

As a (previously) avid 22LR shooter, I have bemoaned the continued lack of (relatively) affordable ammunition, principally CCI Mini Mags. As such, I have searched for a cost-effective replacement and air guns have been a natural fit for the thrifty shooter. It seems that I am not alone in this thinking.

The Importance Of Training (This Is NOT It)

As the title of the Youtube videos suggests, “Worst ever ‘Tactical’ Shooting Video. My mother told me that you can always learn something from someone. And while I do not condone learning how to manipulate a weapon from these people, you can learn what NOT to do by watching them. I am truly concerned about what happens if and when these people ever pick up a firearm after their so called training.
