SIG Sauer has introduced the .177 caliber CO2 powered airgun replica of the M17 pistol. The M17 Air Pistol is externally identical to the US Military’s new handgun both in terms of dimensions and color. The company has also designed this airgun to feel like the M17 by making it with a polymer frame, metal slide, reciprocating blowback action as well as making the disassembly procedure similar to the air pistol’s real counterpart.

SIG Sauer have snagged another government contract but it’s not one you might expect. The US Coast Guard have selected the SIG AIR Pro Force P229 Airsoft Pistol for training cadets and Coast Guardsmen.

The host of  Demolition Ranch YouTube channel has published a video announcing the launch of airsoft AR-15 pattern rifles branded after the channel. At this year’s KADEX 2018 held in Astana, Kazakhstan, the Kazakh state-owned GIS Center had a virtual reality headset that is designed to work with a Kalashnikov-patterned service rifle. The headset portion integrates (and likely licenses) software from a Russian entity called VR Concept, which produces VR solutions for a wide variety of applications.

An astute Internet sleuth from AR15.com spotted a unique moment on Google’s StreetView road imaging service. In Iznik, Turkey (also known my the ancient name of Nicaea), four kids were caught doing what kids do – plinking targets with airguns. Using what appears to be break action, spring loaded airguns (aka “Springers”), Google’s camera-laden vehicle interrupts the group mid shot and preserves it for the online world.

The Isonzo front between Italy and Austria-Hungary in World War I was a battlefield of extremes.  Fought amongst the Alps, rockslides, avalanches and frostbite were just as deadly as the bullets and shells.  One difficulty that the units that fought there faced was the employment of light artillery, infantry guns, and mortars in the extreme mountain environment.  This author has personally been to these areas (now in Italy).  The fact that armies battled on top of and sometimes assaulted up such stupefying heights is mind-blowing.  Seeing such terrain in person really drove home how difficult their tasks were, and how extreme the environment was in which they fought.  When visiting some of the fortifications and battlefields in the area, this author was first exposed to the little-known weapons system covered in this article.

USA Shooting’s podium potential in Airgun events has increased with the announcement that Podium LLC is continuing its partnership with America’s shooting team. Twelve open airgun athletes will compete for Team USA at the 2018 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships later this summer after winning an intense two-part selection match that was finalized today at the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) in Fort Benning, Georgia.
Athletes began their quest during the 2017 Winter Airgun Championships and solidified their standing today at the Rifle/Pistol Spring Selection Match following a two-day match and Final. Team spots were handed out to the top-three finishers in Men’s and Women’s Air Rifle and Pistol. The World Championships will take place August 31-September in Changwon, South Korea.

Crosman Corporation announced a new full auto air rifle that is based on the DPMS PDW design. Yes – full auto fire in your backyard for less money than a tax stamp would cost on the transfer of a full auto firearm.

Umarex is coming out with a .50cal air rifle called the Hammer. Yes .50cal. There is an assortment of projectiles this air rifle can shoot, ranging from 550gr all the way down to 200gr projectiles. They told me they have used . 50 beowulf bullets as well as the ARX Ammo. To give you an idea of this air rifle’s ability, the 550gr moves at about 700 fps while the 200gr projectile screams out at 1150 fps. Pretty respectable and usable for hunting.

Air Venturi has announced the release of the world’s first frangible BBs. The new .177 cal (4.5mm) BBs are called Dust Devil. Just like other frangible projectiles, Dust Devil BBs shatter upon impact on hard surfaces and minimize the possibility of ricochet which steel BBs are well known for. The new BBs are also lead-free. Both features combined make them much safer for use in indoor shooting.

Earlier we reported about the Umarex announcement of their agreement with Glock of manufacturing licensed airsoft and BB Glock replicas. Now, Umarex has added the Glock branded airguns to their website and released videos showcasing these new pistols. Let’s take a look at key features and the released model line.

Like everywhere else where legal gun ownership is strongly complicated by basic laws and unbelievable bureaucratic procedures, it’s expected that illegal, homemade DIY weaponry abound in Brazil. The final products range from finely tuned, decent-looking guns to scary-looking examples that would seem not to go past a first-and-only shot! There are also those that are not firearms at all, having just been put together to look like real (or almost) McCoys, so that their bearers might look “armed”.

UMAREX has announced that they will be launching licensed airsoft and BB copies of Glock pistols. According to the UMAREX’s press release, this is the first time ever Glock licenses an airsoft production. The UMAREX guns will carry original Glock markings and will come in Glock cases. These airguns are expected to hit the shelves of the stores in November 2017. They will be available worldwide.

HatsanUSA makes some great airguns for hunting and target shooting. One of its newest offerings is a semi-automatic BB pistol called the Riptor.

Well known for manufacturing top shelf rimfire ammunition, ELEY Americas announced the company was now offering .177 pellets for air rifles. Called the Ventus, the new pellets appear to have the same attention to detail given to their manufacture as the company gives to its .22 LR loads.

While gunpowder more than gets the job done in most cases, its often possible that simple compressed gas can as well. Being fortunate to have reviewed multiple air rifles, I can attest that for certain circumstances (like anything one might shoot with a .22 LR), that they are excellent options for hunting, training, or legal compliance. Many cities do not allow firearms discharges within city limits, so air rifles are great to get around the rule.
