Having just gotten back from my first-ever Tactical Games event, I wanted to put together a write-up on all of the gear I used down at the GTI in South Carolina. Safariland is extending its family of rifle-rated hard armor plates to include three new offerings specifically designed to be more comfortable and fitted to the female physique. Safariland’s new DT206CF will be the first NIJ Level III plate of its kind specifically fitted to the female form. In addition, Safariland will also be releasing two other non-certified rifle-rated plates with its new Model X-CAL DT CF1 and IMPAC CF1 which are both designed with first responders in mind.

Premier Body Armor is introducing the Everyday Armor T-Shirt 2.0, a shirt designed for discreet protection and everyday use. This T-Shirt is made with anti-microbial compression fabric and has front and rear armor pockets to carry the company’s Level IIIA 7.75″x 12.75″ ballistic inserts. Adept Armor has just announced the completion of what they call the world’s first modular body armor system. With the introduction of Adept’s Storm Foundation Side Plates, users can adapt their body armor to different threat levels by removing these stackable 6×6″ single-curve side plates. The modular strike faces are said to be capable of bringing the armor rating up to Level IV protection standards or beyond.

Adept Armor, a manufacturer of hard body armor plates, has introduced an armor plate called Colossus which it says is the first “Future Proofed” body armor panel. And while unfortunately there’s no information about its rating against a phased plasma bolt in the 40W range, below you will find what it is rated against.

Adept Armor has just released their new modular Storm System body armor that allows users to adapt their armor to the needs of why it’s being worn. The Storm System body armor starts with a Level III Foundation plate, that can then be up-armored with one of two options, the Storm Titanium, plate for speedy projectiles like 5.56 or 5.45, or the Storm Disruptor, which is a ceramic-based add-on plate to bump the Storm System to a Level IV. The Foundation and Titanium plates can both be worn as standalone options, whereas the Disruptor is only designed as a combination to the Foundation.

Adapt Armor has just unveiled their latest armor offering that uses a highly uncommon material in the armor plate world. While most companies will choose to use composite, ceramic, or steel for their armor plate, Adept Armor has developed their new Mantis Titanium Armor Plate that they claim is stronger than steel yet tougher than ceramic.

If you’ve ever trained for (or actually been on) a two-way shooting range, you well understand the value of good body armor. Military and law enforcement work certainly require this lifesaving equipment, but many private citizens also choose to purchase plates in case of emergency. There are many different styles, manufacturers, materials available on the armor market, in widely varying levels of protectiveness and quality. Many shooters prefer NIJ level IV ceramic plates, and Spartan Armor Systems’ new Ares model fits this bill.

In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves is at West Orlando Firearms Training with Heckler & Koch for a reveal of their new pistol. Bulletproof backpack manufacturer Ballistipax was also attending the event and had a few of their Survivor-1 backpacks for demo. The packs have rapid-deploy panels that pull out of the pack and serve as frontal protection. The packs come with plastic or Polyethylene (UHMWPE) plate body armor. James was skeptical about the performance of these plastic body armor plates, so the guys from Ballistipax let him try burning one down with a full auto H&K MP5 using standard ball 9mm ammunition. With the growing popularity of body armor, many companies have expanded their operations to include increasing levels of coverage. Premier Body Armor has announced the release of their Multi-hit capable Level IV STRATIS plates.

RMA Defense has recently announced their new level III+ rifle armor specifically cut for women, which they plan on making available next month.  Women in the military, law enforcement, security, and civilians that just want some extra protection against rifle calibers have had some difficulties using plate armor designed for men.  RMA Defense have developed four different sizes to accommodate various body shapes, which range from small to extra large. Of course not at the expense of decreased ballistic protection. In 2018 the US Marine Corps awarded Vertical Protective Apparel (New Jersey) a $62+ million contract to produce and deliver the Generation III Plate Carriers, and the first samples are now being field-tested.

People think ceramic armor is fragile, but is it really? To find out we blew up a Shot Stop level IV+ rifle plate (model #D1581SSB) and then shot it with an AK and an AR.

There is no doubt that most of our readers know who is Jerry Miculek and that the content he creates has an overwhelmingly high level of coolness. In the latest video published on the channel, Jerry tests a Veterans MFG Ultralight Level III+ body armor by shooting a .50 BMG Hornady 750 grain A-Max bullet at that plate. Enjoy the video.
