TFB Review: The 5.11 Tactical TacTec Plate Carrier
For centuries, people have been shielding themselves from enemy weapons using armor. For whatever reason, even with the numbers and power of modern weapons, civilian body armor has become a contentious subject. Call me crazy, but to avoid death, I’d wear a magic talisman if it would actually help. Most people who are reading this understand that ballistic plates are just another safety device. In order to wear plates, you need a way to carry them. Plate carriers may not have a very creative name, but they offer tons of utility. In recent years, many fitness fanatics have started using them to intensify their workouts. Whatever your reasons for wanting a plate carrier, quality is of utmost importance. The last thing you want is a carrier to fail, costing you your life or your toes. 5.11 Tactical has entered the chat with their TacTec Plate Carrier.

If you’re reading this, you’re most likely a shooter. Either that or you’re a politician looking for reasons to ban items that keep people alive. Assuming you’re the former, that means that you’ve spent countless hours learning how to make holes. Hopefully, you also practice plugging holes. The third hole-related topic is preventing holes. Body armor is still legal in most states, and is used by lawful citizens, firearms instructors, and law enforcement officers. If you’re on the hunt for plates, Strike Industries is now distributing Hyperion Armor RF2/Level III+ plates.

TFB Weekly Web Deals 14: Armored Up Edition (Plate Carriers and Armor)
Hello and welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 14. Earlier this month, in June, the State of New York made the decision to ban certain types of body armor – specifically, soft body armor commonly referred to as a bulletproof vest. Politics aside, the restriction of access to this type of equipment is something that is both confusing and almost counterintuitive in my opinion. That’s why this week for TFB Weekly Web Deals 14 we’re on the hunt for the best deals for soft body armor, hard body armor plates, and plate carriers. Right now is a great time to pick up body armor as there are lots of sales out there. Plate carriers are becoming less and less expensive, and there are rigorous and reliable organizations that properly vet the effectiveness of various types of body armor so you know exactly what you’re buying and what kind of protection you can expect from it. Please enjoy this week’s selection of web deals!

In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves is at West Orlando Firearms Training with Heckler & Koch for a reveal of their new pistol. Bulletproof backpack manufacturer Ballistipax was also attending the event and had a few of their Survivor-1 backpacks for demo. The packs have rapid-deploy panels that pull out of the pack and serve as frontal protection. The packs come with plastic or Polyethylene (UHMWPE) plate body armor. James was skeptical about the performance of these plastic body armor plates, so the guys from Ballistipax let him try burning one down with a full auto H&K MP5 using standard ball 9mm ammunition. How’d it done? Also, cameo from our friend John at Active Self Protection.
