There are a ton of ways that people have attempted to tackle the issue of having a properly tuned AR-15 rifle. The Young Manufacturing Variable Mass M16 Bolt Carrier Group is one new solution in addition to things like adjustable gas blocks, that can help the user get their rifle quickly tuned to work with different types of ammunition, suppressors, and even different cartridges and subsonic loads. The new Variable Mass BCG will come in two different variants with one featuring a chrome finish for better durability and lubricity.

Titanium nitride (TiN) coating is wear-resistant, inert, and most importantly for firearms – reduces friction. While TiN is most commonly found on cutting tools, punches, dies and injection mold components for improving tool life, it’s also used in the firearms industry for many of the same benefits but it’s often cited as making firearms withstand the normal wear between sliding firearms components. TiN coatings are also notable for being extremely thin compared to some other durability coating methods and thus it’s often used as a purely decorative finish as well. Luth-AR has just announced the introduction of their new TiN-coated complete AR-15 Bolt Carrier.

Released a little less than a month ago, at SHOT week, is the new Enhanced Series 9mm Bolt Carrier Group by ODIN Works. I think it would be more correct to call this part a bolt rather than a bolt carrier group because there is no bolt carrier per se, however, I’ll stick to the manufacturer product name in the article. It may not sound very earth-shattering that an AR-15 component manufacturer like 2A Armament has received a patent from the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office), but with so many companies in existence in this line of work, it is great to see something new and innovative.

Recently we reported about the Brownells  lightweight AR-15 bolt carrier groups. Shortly after releasing that product, Brownells has also announced that they are now making titanium AR-15 and AR-10 bolt carrier groups. As you know, titanium is very lightweight. As a matter of fact, their standard profile titanium AR-15 BCG is even lighter than the skeletonized steel one.

Brownells now makes lightweight AR-15 bolt carrier groups. While the bolt itself is a standard one, the bolt carrier has been lightened by cutting and machining out the material and leaving just enough to make it functional. As a result, the new BCG weighs 8.2 ounces.

The Law Tactical folding adapter has made a name for itself for those looking to have a folding stock or brace on their AR builds. The latest iteration of the Law Tactical folder allows the user to fire a single round. But since the buffer and spring are retained in the buffer tube, you cannot continue to fire your AR.

Recoil management for faster follow-up shots is an elusive beast. The balance between weight savings, mechanical complexity and cost is challenge for rifle designers and shooters alike. Master Of Arms has developed the Nyx bolt carrier group to use reciprocating mass to reduce felt recoil while still being able to save weight.

Faxon Firearms has been busy getting ready for SHOT Show like all of us. They introduced new SLIMLINE barrels and muzzle attachments as well as new bolt-carrier groups (BCG). The two newest ones are for .308 Win/7.62 NATO and 9mm.

Faxon Firearms is making some of the lightest barrel setups in the industry with their newest offerings for 2017. Both their barrels and muzzle attachments have tremendously shaved down on weight in comparison to their competitors.

JP Enterprises, known for the LMOS (Low Mass Operating System) and SCS (Silent Capture Spring) has announced the fusion of the two systems into the VMOS (Variable Mass Operating System). In short, the VMOS is a bolt-carrier group that combines the basic shape of the LMOS with the adjustable weight system of the LMOS on a single bolt carrier.
