What did we see at Range Day? Valkyries, Valkyries everywhere. Federal’s pint-sized long distance runner has already outstripped the market purchase of its direct competitors in the high performance AR-15 market, testified to by the sheer number of .224 Valkyrie rifles peppered across the booths and stalls of Range Day ’18.

The original Hydrashok was impressive for its time, but falls a little short compared to modern JHP. Federal has released an updated version called Hydrashok Deep.

As we are now merely days away from SHOT Show 2018, Taurus has begun to slowly leak more and more of their new firearms. We previously covered their announcement of a 1911 Commander model with a 4.2″ barrel. Now Taurus has announced a 1911 Officer model that has a non-traditional 3 1/2″ barrel.

UTS Defense, known for their commercial pump action 12 gauge shotguns in the United States has featured a promotional image on the Turkish website ( not the U.S. one though) that shows a 5.56x45mm AR15 derivative titled the UT512 and a 9x19mm version titled UT9S. The promotion had the simple title of “Coming Soon” at the top, probably in time for SHOT 2018. It would appear that both of these designs have the intent of Military or LE application due to neither of them being legal in Turkey for civilian use, and both would at least be classified as SBRs if imported in the United States. Apart from a few different features, both weapons share the same handguard design, charging handles, BUIS sights, pistol grips, and similar but different telescoping stocks and flash hiders. Both appear to have ambidextrous magazine releases, in addition to what most likely are ambidextrous safety selectors. The handguard is very Midwest Industries-esque with the two bolts at the rear, gas tube vents,

Mikey Hartman, the new MH1 incorporates some forward-thinking features that Mikey felt should be on a reflex sight based on 20 years as the commander of the IDF’s Marksmanship and Sharpshooting School. He not only trained over half a million soldiers, but also founded the school and wrote much of the training doctrine in use by the IDF. The new reticle and the ability to program the sight set it apart from the others on the market.

The guys at Deadfoot Arms saw this as a large problem and came up with a solution that allows you to shoot an AR-15 with the stock folded. No other drop in solution exists for this problem, now your weapon is aways ready.

Streamlight has not only introduced some new models for 2017, but updated some old favorites like the Protac line. The Protac rail mount 2 is a favorite of Patrick’s and he was pleased to learn that they have updated it with a new 1000 lumen version. Streamlight also expanded the TLR 6 line with new options as well as a very exciting 1911 model that is designed to work with just about any non railed 1911.

One of the products that has been on the market for a little while that Patrick wanted to put hands on while at SHOT was the Primary Arms 1-8x24mm Platinum Series scope. With ultra clear glass and outstanding reticle choices, the Platinum series is a huge value in variable one power scopes. It is made in the same factory as other high-end scopes with a price point that is near half competing scopes.
