In a recent Instagram post, Remington announced that all new Remington 700 rifles will feature Timney triggers. Yes, that’s right, all Model 700 rifles, including the base model. This is exciting news as an aftermarket trigger is one of the most popular upgrades for any bolt action rifle.

Timney Triggers just added a new affordable option for the Remington 700 platform. The Impact 700 retails for $124.99 and has a non-adjustable pull weight of between 3 and 4 pounds. Like other Timney options, it is a cassette-style unit that drops into a rifle. Let’s take a look at what all this trigger brings to the table.

I wonder if Remington knew at the Model 700’s introduction that it would become the preeminent open platform in the bolt-action world. Yes, many will argue that it has it weaknesses (especially from the factory), but the base pattern has exploded in popularity with a huge and growing aftermarket for everything, including triggers, actions, barrels, and stocks.

Cerberus, the financial group that owns Remington and the other members of the former Freedom Group, have met with no success in selling the company, an effort that began due to political pressures from its investors. The Wall Street Journal reports:

The US Military is looking for a system to replace the existing bolt-action SOF Sniper Systems M40, M24 and MK13 which are all based on Remington 700 actions.

Ryo decided his Remington 700 did not cut it, so he built a bolt action AR-15. Basically it is a AR-15 with a side charging handle and a blocked gas port.

Remington will be upgrading the 3000 M24 rifles during 2009 at a cost of $3 million. I was quite surprised to hear this after all the noise about bolt action rifles not being good enough and that semi-automatic was the only way to go. The M24 Sniper Weapons System (SWS) is based on the Remington 700 rifle and chambers the 7.62x51mm NATO.
