Gun Shops and Gun Laws of the Philippines
When people ask me about my hobbies, I am often hesitant to say “guns”, so my usual answer is “travel”. Frankly, it is both. And the more I travel, the more I understand that there are very few places in the world, outside of the US, that have an actual gun culture. More often than not, guns are a privilege available only to the rich and well-connected, and in very few places gun ownership is mainstream. But the Philippines are a good exception to that rule.
Rock Island Armory STK100 Approved by IPSC and USPSA Divisions
USPSA and IPSC are both very fun and engaging shooting sports that have a long laundry list of rules, regulations, and approved equipment. Part of this approved equipment also includes very strict criteria for each division that separates competitors to provide a more even playing field. Rock Island Armory’s first offering in the polymer-framed striker-fired pistol market -the STK100 – has just received approval for the Production and Carry Optics divisions for both the IPSC and USPSA shooting organizations giving competitors access to yet another firearm. The Rock Island Armory STK100 was announced last year in June and is the first of its kind from RIA USA.
Wheelgun Wednesday: Rock Island's Affordable M200 Revolvers
When most Americans think of the Philippines in relation to revolvers, they may well think of the mythological ineffectiveness of the .38 Long Colt chambered M1894 and M1901 revolvers during the Moro Rebellion. However, revolvers have been manufactured in the Philippines themselves for quite some time, beginning with the Squires Bingham/Armscor M100D and Thunderchief revolvers as well as the Shooters Arms “Protector”. This past week, TFBTV’s James Reeves took a detailed look at RIA/Armscor’s M206 revolver.
VIDEO: The NEW Rock Island Armory STK100 Striker Fired Handgun
In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves meets with John of RIA to discuss the new Rock Island Armory STK100 striker-fired, aluminum-framed handgun. This gun is, essentially, an aluminum-framed Glock clone that has about 90% parts compatibility with the Glock 3rd gen handguns. However, the STK100 has a number of features that aren’t featured on other striker-fired guns in the same price point including optics cuts, lightening cuts in the slide, an aluminum frame, and more.

Rock Island Armory (RIA) has just unveiled their first striker-fired pistol – the STK100. The STK100 features a 17 round standard magazine capacity, aluminum grip, and 1911 style grip angle. The STK100 will be launching officially on June 17th at 10am Mountain time and you can register for the live presentation and Q&A session via the Armscor/RIA website. The new STK100 should have an MSRP right around $599 and will be manufactured by Rock Island Armory in the Philippines.

Modern Personal Defense Weapon Calibers 013: The .22 TCM and .22 TCM 9R
It has been a little while since we visited the subject of modern personal defense weapon calibers, so to start it off again we’ll be taking a look at a new high velocity round that is only a few years old: Armscor’s .22 TCM. This round was reportedly developed by Fred Craig as a high velocity caliber for the 1911 platform, and picked up by Philippine company Armscor. Originally called the “.22 Mini Mag”, the .22 TCM (Tuason-Craig Magnum, after Craig and Armscor’s president) is designed to fit inside the magazine well of a 1911 and function from .38 Super 1911 magazines. Although a pistol round, the .22 TCM is based off the .223 Remington case, shortened by about three quarters of an inch. Thanks to the thick web of its parent case, the .22 TCM is capable of handling high pressures of 40,000 PSI. A version with a shortened projectile, the .22 TCM 9R, is compatible with shorter 9mm magazines for weapons like the Glock 17.
