Concealed Carry Corner: Modern Vs Older Carry Guns
Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week, we talked about having multiple carry setups and why you may need more than just your regular everyday carry. If you happen to miss that article, be sure to click the link here to check it out. This week, I wanted to look at some of the more interesting carry guns that I still enjoy carrying. They may not be the most modern option, but they are still great firearms in their own way. I read articles constantly about the latest and greatest firearms, but are the older firearms still proficient? Let's take a closer look at modern vs older carry guns.

Written by Ian McCollum and James Rupley the book will cover all of the major rifles developed and issued during the period, including: the FN FAL, M14, HK G3 and the AR-10 but also some of the less well known Battle Rifles such as the French MAS49/56, Danish LAR, and the Stgw. 57.

SilencerCo’s New SCO Slide For Gen 1-3 Glocks
SilencerCo is back at their pistol work again, this time with something that will hopefully scratch the itch for those who want a Maxim 9 but just can’t find a way to get their hands on one. While this slide won’t convert your Glock into a Maxim 9, the design of the new SCO Slide is heavily inspired by SilencerCo’s integrally suppressed 9mm pistol. The new slide is also going to come pre-cut, ready to direct-mount one optic of your choice from a list of some of the most popular pistol red dots currently available.

TFB Behind the Gun #166: Mike Slack of Engaged Industries
Mike Slack has been hard at work for years developing and designing suppressors. His new company, Engaged Industries, and their first two suppressors, the Operator and Recon, are trying to do their best to revolutionize as well as educate the suppressor world. Mike’s two suppressors share a unique design that capitalizes on fluid dynamics and vacuum characteristics to create a lightweight, high-performing, and quiet suppressor that also doesn’t behave like old-school high-backpressure suppressors. Mike has also developed his own quieter “Stealth LoK” QD system, which also has a bunch of other small design features that make it an improvement over a lot of other offerings already on the market. To hear those details and more, tune into this week’s episode of TFB’s Behind the Gun Podcast featuring Mike Slack of Engaged Industries.

A Detailed Look At The Pistollo 77° - The Strangest Looking PCC Ever
The Pistollo 77° is probably one of the weirdest firearms I’ve ever seen. As the designer ran me through the details, I had a hard time realizing what I was looking at. It’s almost as if one lets Artificial Intelligence design a gun, and we all have a laugh that it’s never going to work. But the Pistollо is real, it works and the first production units are about to be released. It would totally fit any country’s Space Force, but unless you’re Czech, you can’t buy it. Not just yet, anyway, but it will eventually be available for the U.S. market.
Wheelgun Wednesday: Starr 1858 - Fast Shooting Cap-And-Ball Firepower
Except for very, very rare exceptions like the Chiappa Rhino, revolvers more or less look the same these days, and function mostly the same as well. There’s a pattern to follow. But in the 1800s, designers were still figuring things out, trying new ideas to make better handguns. One of those was the 1858 revolver from entrepreneur/designer Ebanezer Starr. This was one of the earliest double-action handguns in the world, particularly in the U.S.
Mission Impossible: The Guns of Ethan Hunt - Volume 1
When you think of action movie spies immediately think of one of three names: Bond, Bourne, or Hunt. Across eight blockbuster movies, spanning the last 30 years, Mission: Impossible’s Ethan Hunt has had a uniquely intriguing range of weapons. Over the course of the films Tom Cruise’s most famous role has seen him using everything from the classic Beretta 92 to a heavily modified Desert Eagle designed for launching a grappling hook, and even drum-fed M82 Barrett .50 Cal rifle fired remotely.

Modernize Your SKS - HUSH Holsters SKS Folding Stock
Frequent TFB readers will remember Spencer from HUSH Holsters. A few years back, Spencer came out with his high-tech 3D printed suppressor compatible holster and since then, it’s taken off and Spencer has had time to come out with a completely new product line - a new SKS Folding Stock. Available in more modern nylon or classic wood, each of these made-to-order stocks can use almost any variant of SKS, with any bayonet, and any magazine setup, helping breathe new life into the antiquated WWII semi-automatic 7.62x39mm carbine.
We Almost Didn’t Have The PK, The Nikitin Machine Gun
The Russo-Ukraine War has unearthed another unique piece of history, particularly in the context of Soviet machine gun development. As reported by ANNA-NEWS on February 25, 2025, Russia has captured a Soviet experimental Nikitin machine gun from an arms depot belonging to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Truck Guns, Part 1: From Stagecoaches to Tacomas
The concept of a truck gun is nothing new. Be it the Western stagecoach driver of old transporting wealth or prisoners or the suburban father driving to work or shuttling his children to soccer, there is a need to protect precious cargo. Regardless of circumstance, when you find yourself on the open road, you need to be armed and ready for unexpected dangers that may present themselves in an emergency. In such cases, a pistol may be unable to provide an opportunity for gaining the advantage, but the truck gun has become a standard in mobile personal defense.
POTD: The Quarter Circle 10 QC-5 and QC-10 Pistol Caliber Carbines
Today, we’re looking at the Quarter Circle 10, a pistol caliber carbine with no interest in being ordinary. Most Quarter Circle 10s are designed around the Glock magazine pattern, however, there are other magazine solutions as well, as you can clearly see in this Photo Of The Day. The MP5-like PCC is also a Quarter Circle 10, with an AR9 MP5 Upper and Lower Receiver - let’s name it the QC-5!. Note the AC-Unity MP5-style magazine for 9 mm.

The PKM is one of the most enduring battlefield weapons of the modern era. Designed in the Soviet Union over 60 years ago, it’s still in service today in conflicts around the world. But why has no one replaced it? In this video, James Reeves goes beyond basic field tests and takes a deep dive into the PKM’s design, reliability, and legacy. With firsthand footage, interviews, and engineering studies from Poland, Vietnam, and Egypt, this is the most thoroughly researched breakdown of the PKM ever made. From Cold War trials to modern combat zones, here’s why the PKM refuses to die.
