Thunder Ranch is probably one of my favorite places to go when it comes to getting solid, informative, and applicable firearms training. I’m lucky enough to live within short driving distance of the Ranch, so when Jordan of Meprolight invited me out to take the Urban Precision Rifle (UPR) course, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to put one of their new MVO 1-8x28 LPVOs through the typical Thunder Ranch torture test. If you’ve read my review of the   Smith & Wesson Performance Center M&P9 M2.0 Full Size Metal Carry Comp last November, then you know I was a little late to the M&P party. Having held them at gun stores, I was keenly aware of the M&P’s ergonomic advantages, and being a Glock shooter, I’ve never been averse to polymer, but for some reason, getting one of these handguns out on the range evaded me for years. Given that I skipped a few grades ahead with the ported, metal frame, Performance Center model, the experience proved overwhelmingly satisfying. So, when Smith & Wesson   announced the Metal Compact series earlier this year, I jumped at the chance to review the   M&P9 M2.0 4-Inch Metal Compact Thumb Safety version.

I recently came across an interesting Smith & Wesson M1917 revolver chambered in 45 ACP. There are some interesting pieces of this gun and this is one of those firearms where I wish it could talk to me and tell me everything it's been through. This rifle’s concept is based on the company’s founder Roy Weatherby’s motto, “Tomorrow’s Rifles Today”, which is embodied in combining traditional materials like the exhibition-grade walnut of the stock with modern ones like the carbon fiber barrel wrapping and the titanium used in making the action.

Over the years, TFB has covered Silent Steel, suppressors made in Finland - the Golden land of suppressors. Silent Steel is now coming Stateside, with a new company established as the independent American arm, created to deliver Europe’s trusted suppressor innovations to the U.S. market.

Griffin Armament have released a new adjustable AR-15 gas block designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind. With only two gas settings, this new gas block allows for quick adjustment of the system for shooting suppressed and unsuppressed. The adjustments are done from either side of the gas block by rotating the disc-shaped adjustment plate.

Davidson’s has partnered with Bergara to introduce the first complete Bergara rifle featuring a stainless-steel barreled action: the B-14 FSP (Fluted Special Purpose) Hunter Stainless. This exclusive rifle boasts a stainless-steel barrel, receiver, and bolt, with both the barrel and bolt body featuring fluting for weight reduction and enhanced performance.

When most people think of the Vietnam War and the weapons used by the North Vietnamese forces, iconic firearms like the AK-47 or the SKS usually come to mind. But there's one lesser-known weapon that played a key role during the conflict: Vietnam’s very own submachine gun, the K-50M. The K-50M is a curious piece of Cold War-era hardware that’s part Chinese, part Vietnamese, and totally underrated.

I was about to buy a .22LR rimfire pistol for recreational shooting and plinking, and came close to buying another brand. That’s until I discovered the Sig Sauer P322 you’re now looking at in this Photo Of The Day. It boasts a 20+1 round capacity, optic-ready slide, and suppressor-ready threaded barrel, making it ideal for plinking, training, or competitive shooting. I took one of my old Leupold DeltaPoints and the solution didn’t disappoint, although the original sights are quite good. To make it look cooler and perform with a lot less noise, I added an A-TEC Wave Carbon suppressor, the carbon fiber version.

B.E. Meyers & Co. has been awarded a contract exceeding $5,000,000 by the U.S. Special Operations Command for the Miniature Aiming Laser - Ultra High Power (MAL-UHP) program. The MAL-UHP is built on the company’s DAGIR Multi-Platform Advanced Laser System platform. While USSOCOM selected the DAGIR-V1 for the Squad Aiming Laser - Ultra High Power (SAL-UHP) program in the fall of 2024, the MAL-UHP uses the DAGIR-V2. The DAGIR-V2 retains the same capabilities as the SAL-UHP, but adds a dedicated visible-laser override button for immediate visible-laser use without mode switching.

Charter Arms, a U.S.-based manufacturer of revolvers for over 60 years, has introduced the Pathfinder II, a double-action/single-action revolver chambered in .22LR. The revolver features a 3.5-inch extruded stainless-steel vented barrel and cylinder, with a frame and cylinder constructed from 7075 anodized aircraft aluminum. It includes an orange aluminum ramp front sight for rapid target acquisition, an adjustable rear sight for precision, a stainless-steel compensator to minimize muzzle rise, and a compact rubber grip.

All B&Ts in 9mm are great platforms to carry Aimpoint red dots, and I guess that’s the subject of today’s Photo Of The Day. We have the B&T SPC9 with GBRS Group’s Hydra V2 Mount Kit. The kit carries an Aimpoint T-1 and a Steiner DBAL. With its 2.91” optic centerline, this mount sits too high for my preference, but if I were carrying other gear - like Night Vision Goggles - maybe I’d take that back. The suppressor is A-Tec’s SMG suppressor, a fitting name. Top center is Spuhr’s new RDF Aimpoint Flip & Magnifier Mount, with an Aimpoint H-2 and a 3xMAG I think.

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is, of course, all about the rimfire firearm world. Today, we’ll be covering a recently released firearm that I first got my hands on during a media event earlier this summer, hosted by Smith & Wesson at their Maryville, TN facility, as well as the Windrock Shooting Range and Training Center. There, we got to test out many of Smith’s new firearms, as well as some historical pieces from the personal collection of firearms historian Michael Helms. Of the rimfire offerings on display, two in particular stood out to me, with one of them being the M&P FPC 22LR. The rimfire variant of the very controversial M&P FPC 9mm, the FPC 22LR, has a lot of features that might appeal specifically to those who like to take a “backpack” gun with them on hikes, property checks, or even camping. Let's check out what it’s got to offer from the first 1,000 or so rounds I’ve fired through it.

PROOF Research, the company renowned for pioneering aerospace-grade carbon fiber barrels that shave pounds off rifles while boosting accuracy and heat dissipation, has just dropped a game-changer for custom builders and backcountry enthusiasts. The company announced that its Lightweight Hunter Stock and Mountain Tactical Hunter Stock are now hitting the market as standalone components, giving shooters the freedom to integrate these ultra-light carbon fiber masterpieces into their own builds. Previously, these stocks have only been sold together with their high-end rifles.

It should come as no surprise to any gun owner that barrels may wear out, and machine guns are no exception. FN America has been awarded a $6.9 million contract by the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Land and Maritime for the supply of M240 and M249 machine gun barrels. The order, to be fulfilled across nine deliveries, underscores FN’s longstanding partnership with DLA Land and Maritime, a key combat support agency that provides spare parts for land-based and maritime weapon systems. Serving over 20,000 customers across all U.S. military branches, civil agencies, and other DoD organizations, DLA ensures the readiness of critical weapon systems in the field.

Maven has just rolled out the red carpet for their latest direct-to-consumer launches: the M.1 and M.2 monoculars.
