One of the most popular concealed carry cartridges has been added to the Speer Ammunition product line. The new 30 Super Carry Gold Dot ammunition is now available and will come in the typical 20-round boxes. The new 30 Super Carry Gold Dot joins the popular personal protection ammunition lineup with other popular options like the 115-grain 9mm Gold Dot and the 180-grain 40 S&W Gold Dot ammunition offerings. This new addition to the Speer ammunition line further expands the options that concealed carriers have when it comes to ammunition selection in their 30 Super Carry handguns.

We are excited to add this new cartridge to the line of the No. 1 bullet choice of law enforcement,” said Jesse Whiteside, Federal’s Senior Director of Product Management. “The new 30 Super Carry option packs all of the functional features that law enforcement and concealed carry users have trusted in a personal protection round. The Uni-Cor bonded Gold Dot Bullet is designed for better weight retention, deep penetration, and exceptional expansion. It’s clear to see why the line of Gold Dot ammunition continues to be so popular.

This new variant of 30 Super Carry Gold Dot comes first as a 115-grain JHP projectile with an advertised muzzle velocity of 1,150 feet per second out of a 3.5-inch barrel meaning it should have 338 foot-pounds of muzzle energy. This is about 10 foot-pounds less than standard 9mm offerings and about 130 foot-pounds greater than comparable 380 ACP offerings. So in essence, it’s staying true to the 30 Super Carry mission statement by offering the capacity of a 380 with similar performance to a 9mm.

The tests I have seen so far of .30 SC hollow points show them under expanding. This is likely a problem with bullet construction. Hopefully Speer got it right. The cartridge is going nowhere if its terminal performance is lacking. For now, I am sticking with my 9mm.

I wonder if it is narrow enough to make a double stack double feed pistol mag which would add eden more capacity over single feed mags?
