Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and all of its guns, shooting sports, ammunition, and of course, rich history! This week we’re taking a look at an old and probably almost forgotten-about accessory for the Ruger 10/22 rifle – the Mitchell 50/22 Magazine, a 50-round drum magazine that is much more than meets the eye when compared to today’s 50-round drum offerings for the Ruger 10/22. What I’ve learned about these nifty magazines recently has made me wish that these rare magazines would make a comeback. So join me today as we explore who the Mitchell Arms company was, how their 50-round drum offering for the 10/22 rifle performed, and of course where you can find these rare magazines now and how much you should expect to pay for one.

TFB Review: Terrain Flex Jeans From LA Police Gear- NINE Pockets For Concealed Carry

LA Police Gear has been around since 2001, and they have established their own brand in addition to supplying other popular brands of duty gear to law enforcement and citizens. The LA Police Gear Terrain Flex Jeans are a departure from duty gear that ventures straight toward the concealed carry market that features NINE pockets, but without looking tactical whatsoever. As a longtime concealed carrier, I can say that the LAPG Terrain Flex Jeans answers questions that should’ve been asked a long time ago. Let’s dive into these pocketses.

TFB Weekly Web Deals 67: No Ammo? Time to Buy Magazines!

Welcome to TFB Weekly Web Deals 67! October is 3/4 of the way over and fall is in full swing up here in the Pacific Northwest. While this means less time to shoot during the daylight hours, this does mean that it’s almost that time of year when getting out to shoot with night vision on is becoming much less of a hassle. However, as we talked about last week, it looks like there has been another bum rush on 5.56/.223 ammunition which has led to most of the more affordable training ammunition drying up. As of writing, the average price for any type of 5.56 or .223 ammunition seems to be sitting at about 20-25 cents more per round than just a week ago. Most of what is left on sites like Palmetto State Armory, Primary Arms, Natchez Shooters Supply, and other online retailers, is mostly heaver grain match ammunition or 62-grain green tip (M855). My go-to pistol ammunition for this year AAC 124gr 9mm, is no longer in stock in individual boxes but can be purchased as a package deal with a Plano Ammunition can for about $0.30 per round meaning 9mm pricing hasn’t been affected quite as much as 5.56 ammunition. I’ll post the few deals like that that I’ve found but for this week, I think we’ll mostly be able to find deals on other things besides ammunition – here’s hoping that changes soon! In any case, if you’re not buying your regular order of ammo, why not just buy more magazines!

Searching for Non-Standard Magazines At TheMagShack

There is simply no other way to put it – I buy a lot of magazines every year, even though I don’t wind up using all of them. Most of this has to do with having to review a lot of different firearms throughout the year, all of which use different types of magazines, many of which are so proprietary or rare that you can often only find them online. AK, AR, and Glock magazines are pretty much a dime a dozen these days and you can get them at a pretty predictable price pretty much anywhere. The magazines we’ll be taking a look at today can often only be found online, and even then are often not in stock due to their somewhat niche nature, however, once again the good folks at TheMagShack.com have stepped in to help us find the non-standard magazines we’re looking for.

The Mag Shack – Thousands of Factory Original and Aftermarket Mags

Let’s face it, magazines are a hot-button issue for a number of reasons, and not all of them have to do with the legality or even their capacity. A lot of times magazines can become infamous or famous simply because of their availability, or lack thereof. One notable example is the current availability of FN FAL magazines. 12-15 years ago you could find them on nearly every firearm, gear, or gun classified ad for pretty cheap, probably along with a bunch of ammunition the guy bought with the gun. These days FAL magazines are quite expensive for surplus models and a lot of them are probably banged up and close to the end of their life if not past it. This is why I’m happy to see another competitor in the magazine retailer market – The Mag Shack. The Mag Shack stocks and sells thousands of OEM factory and aftermarket magazines for virtually every type of gun currently being produced, as well as firearms that are no longer produced or are very niche in nature.

Turns Out, Using Your Mags Is Really The Only Thing That Degrades Them

Part of what I love about being a gun nerd is meeting other people who are willing to go to extreme lengths to test out concepts, and theories, or maybe even just to get a solid set of raw data. A couple of weeks ago, Paul from Ammunition To Go, an online ammunition retailer, reached out to me to share some of their extensive magazine testing data with the hopes that their real-world, and lab-tested results could help people determine exactly what keeps mags running for the longest. Below are just a few highlights that stood out to me, but if you’d like to read the entire article by David Lewis, you can check it out here.

AK Magazine Adapter For Ruger American Ranch Rifles

The Ruger American Rifle series has become a popular, affordable line of rifles that include the Ruger American Ranch Rifle, one of which comes chambered for 7.62x39mm. For the American Ranch, Ruger opted to incorporate their own magazine design from the Ruger Mini-30, also chambered for 7.62×39. However, the 7.62×39 cartridge is most synonymous with AKM pattern rifles, thus, many people have been hoping for a Ruger American Ranch Rifle that accepts AK magazines. Enter Firecastle Customs, who recently announced their AK magazine adapter for Ruger American Ranch Rifles chambered in 7.62×39.
