Searching for Non-Standard Magazines At TheMagShack
There is simply no other way to put it – I buy a lot of magazines every year, even though I don’t wind up using all of them. Most of this has to do with having to review a lot of different firearms throughout the year, all of which use different types of magazines, many of which are so proprietary or rare that you can often only find them online. AK, AR, and Glock magazines are pretty much a dime a dozen these days and you can get them at a pretty predictable price pretty much anywhere. The magazines we’ll be taking a look at today can often only be found online, and even then are often not in stock due to their somewhat niche nature, however, once again the good folks at TheMagShack.com have stepped in to help us find the non-standard magazines we’re looking for.

Searching for Non-Standard Magazines At TheMagShack
While the newest iteration of SIG Sauer’s MPX magazines are both higher in capacity and sport a fresh new look, I really like the older Generation 2 MPX magazines which featured a translucent look that I found very fitting to the MPX’s overall aesthetic. These magazines are going to disappear off the market soon but at the time of writing, I can find these on themagshack.com for about $60 per magazine. Just remember these are lower capacity than the newest generation of MPX mag at only 30 rounds, and SIG Sauer highly recommends that you use the correct generation magazines with their corresponding MPX model. However, just to prove that you can get away with it, below is fellow TFB writer Lucas D’s Generation 3 MPX paired with an older Gen 2 magazine.
The Ruger Mini-30 is a blast to shoot for me simply because it’s not another AR or AK. That being said, if you’ve bought one of these, you know it only comes with one 5-round magazine and the chances are that the gun store you’ve bought the gun from doesn’t have any of the higher capacity ones in stock. In a world full of ARs and AKs, I love the Ruger Mini, and my favorite variant is the 7.62×39. While I’m all for 30-round magazines, I find that 20-round magazines give me a bit more flexibility when shooting in various positions, and they also happen to be the perfect size to match up with exactly one box of ammo making it easy for me to keep track of just how much money I’ve wasted that day. You can find these magazines at TheMagShack.com for about $30 apiece. Check out TFBTV’s coverage on a variety of 7.62×39 rifles including the Mini-30 below:
While it may not be a genuine piston gun or even technically a genuine HK gun, the HK 416 22LR rifle is a blast to shoot and gives off that HK 416 aesthetic almost perfectly, just without the added cost of $0.50 per round every time you pull the trigger. Once again these are magazines you have virtually no chance of finding in big box gun stores, but TheMagShack.com has them in stock for $30 each they’re the real deal and come complete in the official HK packaging so people know just how much of a gun snob you are…. even if you’re shooting a .22LR clone of the rifle you really want.
OKAY IND. SUREFEED E2 AR-15 30-ROUND MAGAZINEs
If you’re into metal magazines, you’ll know that along with a few other select producers of aluminum mags, Okay Industries’ Surefeed magazines are some of the best in the business – however, they’ve gone out of the magazine production business and the supply of originals is quickly dwindling on the web. While there have been rumors surfacing that Palmetto State Armory might be picking up the production of these magazines, there is no way to tell how this transition would even pan out even if the rumors are true. If you like Okay Industries Surefeed E2 mags, you can pick them up right now at TheMagShack.com for about $13 each. If you want to know why the Okay Industries Surefeed E2 magazine is so popular you should check out Matt E’s review of a handful of them here.
If I recall correctly, there was a time a handful of years ago when you couldn’t find FN P90/PS90 magazines to save your life. While the magazines themselves are already pretty esoteric, finding them in stock was a real hassle outside of a select few websites – good luck even finding a single one of them inside a brick-and-mortar gun store without having to special order one. Add to that, there really are no good aftermarket options that are worth buying since they cost about the same as actual FN PS90 magazines. You can find PS90/P90 magazines in stock at TheMagShack.com for about $43. TFB Writer Austin Rex did a neet collaboration with the YouTube channel 1911 Syndicate about the P90 if you want to learn more about my favorite Belgian bullpup sub-gun.
Buy Often, Stock up
While I used to be of the mind that magazines would last me forever, a lot of recent range trips have shown me that magazines are far more fillable than previously thought. Some magazines just don’t work, others don’t take to being dropped or knocked around too much, and sometimes you just wear one out through sheer abuse (which we will do plenty of soon in an upcoming video/article). Because of that, I not only have to keep a healthy supply of standard AR-15, Glock, and other handgun magazines around, but every so often I have to keep a few oddballs in reserve for when I have to run a gun that you don’t usually see every day. If you’re looking for some odd magazines for guns in your inventory, chances are if it was produced within the last 10 years, then TheMagShack probably has a magazine for it. do they carry FNAR mags? Because those disappeared and are impossible to get now.
Please explain what is going on with the Gen 2 MPX magazines, why are they going away?
