TFB Review: Terrain Flex Jeans From LA Police Gear- NINE Pockets For Concealed Carry

LA Police Gear Terrain Flex Jeans Review

LA Police Gear has been around since 2001, and they have established their own brand in addition to supplying other popular brands of duty gear to law enforcement and citizens. The LA Police Gear Terrain Flex Jeans are a departure from duty gear that ventures straight toward the concealed carry market that features NINE pockets, but without looking tactical whatsoever. As a longtime concealed carrier, I can say that the LAPG Terrain Flex Jeans answers questions that should’ve been asked a long time ago. Let’s dive into these pocketses.

    LA Police Gear @ TFB:

LA POLICE GEAR TERRAIN FLEX JEANS REVIEW

The Terrain Flex Jeans from LA Police Gear, along with their counterpart of Terrain Flex Pants, are designed with a “straight fit” cut. The Jeans are available in dark wash, medium wash, and vintage wash, while the Pants are available in black, coyote, grey, khaki, OD green, and sierra. The Terrain Flex Jeans I received felt extremely durable, with noticeably thicker denim construction. From the first I put the jeans on, they fit perfectly and comfortably.

Most men’s jeans feature five pockets, with the small fifth pocket ranging anywhere from housing a flip phone, to completely useless for anything but a few quarters. However, the LAPG Terrain Flex Jeans are like modern jeans on a fist full of steroids. LAPG essentially used the fifth pocket concept by adding a sixth, increased the size of both, and kept going by adding two more AR magazine-sized pockets directly aft at the 4 and 8 o’clock positions, then added a hidden handcuff key pocket as part of the 6 o’clock belt loop for good measure.

    HIDDEN HANDCUFF KEY POCKET

While the placement of the hidden handcuff key pocket is great, especially if you’re working undercover, or if there’s a chance an assailant may use handcuffs on you, it is the thinnest part of the whole pantalone, and a handcuff key may wear a hole through over time.

    FRONT & REAR JEANS POCKETS

The standard front and rear pockets are comparable to most other jeans pockets, so I won’t go into detail on them, other than to say that the front pockets have some extra material at the corners for clipping pocket knives and flashlights to reduce premature wear in those spots.

CONCEALED CARRY WITH LAPG’S TERRAIN FLEX JEANS

The Terrain Flex Jeans really shine with concealed carry, and seeing as how you’re reading this review on The Firearm Blog, that’s the market I focused on. However, the Terrain Flex Jeans could certainly work great with things such as hiking, fishing, photography, hunting, undercover work, or just walking about with the family. I think these nine-pocket jeans would be great at the shooting range as well.

    FIFTH & SIXTH JEANS POCKETS

The fifth and sixth pockets just above and behind the two front standard pockets were able to hold a wide variety of reloads and various other items. I carry a S&W CSX as my primary concealed carry weapon, and with other pants, I’ve been carrying a spare magazine in my back pocket opposite my wallet. With the Terrain Flex Jeans though, I carried my spare 12-round magazine horizontally in the sixth pocket. I later realized I could actually carry two such magazines horizontally, one on top of the other, and they just blended right in.

Two 12-round micro compact magazines fit perfectly in the sixth pocket (horizontally conceals better), while the seventh and eighth pockets can conceal 20-round AR-15 magazines or a couple full-sized pistol magazines.

I’m also an avid wheelgunner and while I’ve gotten by carrying a speed strip in my back pocket, speedloaders haven’t been a great option for reloads since my front pockets are always occupied with other stuff like keys and pocket change. The fifth and sixth pockets of the Terrain Flex Jeans could carry a mix of speed strips and speedloaders, or four speedloaders between the two pockets without drawing any attention. This would also give the reloads their own pockets without having them get jumbled around with other items normally carried.

    SEVENTH & EIGHTH POCKETS

The seventh and eighth pockets of the Terrain Flex Jeans can easily conceal several full-sized pistol magazines, or one 20-round AR magazine each. My dumb phone happens to be the same size as a 20-round AR mag, so I carried that in the eighth pocket on my left. It also housed a Galaxy A14 smartphone just fine. I liked carrying my phone in that pocket, which worked great walking, standing, and sitting, and I was still able to reach it while driving.

    UPDATE:

A reader challenged me to run in the Terrain Flex Jeans while carrying reloads to see if they would disorient in the pockets, so I accepted. I planned on running my normal two mile stint on the treadmill, and started out with a selection of speedloaders, speed strips, and a 12 round S&W CSX magazine for the fifth and sixth pockets, and I put a 20 round AR mag in the eighth pocket for good measure. I started out with my 12 round micro compact magazine in the sixth pocket in the horizontal position as described above since it’s such a perfect fit without being tight. I then started out with a 6 round HKS 10-A speedloader in the fifth pocket; two will fit, but I was curious to see if one would dislodge if left by its loansome. After a half mile, the CSX mag hadn’t budged as I expected, so I swapped it with a 7 round speed strip placed vertically towards my 10 o’clock position. Neither the speedloader nor the speed strip moved, nor did I have to adjust them during or after my two mile mark. The following photos aren’t the best since my heart rate was still up.

    FINAL THOUGHTS

It is rare for me not to find a single negative aspect on review items, and I can’t find one on the Terrain Flex Jeans from LA Police Gear. Even though this series of LAPG reviews have been sponsored material, however I wasn’t paid by them, promised anything from them, nor was I given any talking points. WIth that all said, I highly recommend the Terrain Flex Jeans! I’ll admit that the regular price of $69.99 is a bit of a shock compared to the Wrangler’s I buy at Walmart for $25, but I’ll definitely be buying more pairs of the Terrain Flex Jeans and Terrain Flex Pants. You can find LAPG’s Terrain Flex Jeans HERE, or the Terrain Flex Pants, HERE. You can also visit LAPoliceGear.com to see all of their own branded products, or other popular brands they stock as well.

What do you think about the Terrain Flex Jeans? If you’ve already been wearing the LAPG Terrain Flex Jeans (or the pants version), how has your experience been, and how do you utilize the extra pockets?
