SIG Sauer has a new weapon light for long guns. The FOXTROT MSR combines a lot of the most popular features in current lights at a very competitive price point. Keep reading to see what SIG has created. 

Viridian has a new combination light laser unit for concealed carry pistols. The C5L Micro combines a green laser with a 550-lumen light. It is sized to fit on the most popular everyday carry guns.

Streamlight has added new Low Profile Tactical Lights with either red or green lasers suitable for subcompact handguns. The red laser version is named TLR-8 sub and the green laser is TLR-8 G sub. Both come with a 500-lumen light. Streamlight claims that the light runs for 1.5 hours and the laser for 11 hours, on a single CR123A lithium battery. Furthermore, the light has ambidextrous rear paddle controls, a strobe function, and comes with an IPX4 water-resistance rating.

When someone mentions Crimson Trace, the first thing that comes to my mind is a pistol-mounted, grip-activated visible laser. While this style of aiming device was Crimson Trace’s chief offering for years, the company has expanded significantly over time – particularly since their acquisition by Smith & Wesson in 2016. Today, this 27-year-old Oregonian brand sells a broad spectrum of riflescopes, red dot optics, weaponlights, a variety of laser styles, and more. One of their newer products is the CMR-301, a rail-mounted visible light/laser combo intended for use on AR-style long guns. I recently got to spend some time checking out one of these units, and will share my thoughts on it below. It wasn’t long ago that if you wanted a light on your rifle, it was SureFire or nothing. With their company history stretching back nearly a half-century and key innovations in weapon-mounted flashlights beginning as early as the 1980s, it’s not hard to see why they were the kings of this particular hill for so long. In recent years, however, the market for tactical illumination has exploded. Usage and demand have soared, and as a result, many younger companies have arisen to challenge the SureFire giant. While this process has given us a veritable ocean of lesser products, it has also featured some phenomenal lights from other manufacturers. While SureFire still offers many excellent weaponlights, they no longer sit alone on the top shelf of this realm. For my money and from my experience, two companies, in particular, have emerged as the most capable direct SureFire long gun light competitors, in the majority of applications: the PLH and OKW models from Modlite, and the OWL and REIN lights from Cloud Defensive.

By now most shooters are familiar with the major players in the weapon light game. Surefire set the standard, Modlite and Cloud Defensive continue to push the envelope, Streamlight offers viable budget-friendly alternatives, and a host of other manufacturers position themselves at various levels of the market. Pistol lights are one area that has seen increasing use and demand in recent years, as more people than ever are opting to outfit their defensive or duty handguns with an integrated source of illumination. While some buyers opt for lights like Surefire’s X300-U that extend beyond the gun’s muzzle, others value a more compact form factor like Streamlight’s TLR series, some of which include a visible laser. Now with the following press release a lesser-known company, Nightstick, has announced their own entry into the compact pistol light/laser race with the introduction of their rechargeable TSM-11G. The release reads:

Admit it. You want a laser-light combo. We all do, I mean they’re right in that sweet spot of cool and practical. Anyone who’s gone shooting at the range with a laser knows how useful of a training tool it is, and anyone who’s LARPed around their house at night knows how practical a weapon flashlight is. Or I suppose if you carry a handgun for your job, you know how functional both are. Enter the Streamlight TLR-2G.

Unity Tactical continues to innovate and brought many of their new offerings to NRA 2019. Talking to Chip, he said people often ask for a Unity version of products already made well by other companies. Instead of making more of the same, Unity’s goal is to provide new, innovative solutions that are not currently available elsewhere.

Surefire brought two new suppressors for release at NRA 2019. Both are built entirely of Titanium. This has cut the weight nearly in half compared to the weight of their predecessors. Both suppressors were designed for use with bolt action rifles and use Surefire’s quick detach mount system. While not designed for heavy cadences of fire, the titanium cans were surprisingly light.
