SCOTUS Takes Up Case Challenging 80% Receiver Rule

Once again, a lawsuit against a rule made by the ATF is headed to the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS). Garland v. VanDerStok challenges the ATF’s administrative rule that declared firearm kits and partially-manufactured receivers were firearms. This follows hot on the heels of oral arguments in Cargill, the case fighting the bump stock ban.

[SHOT 2020] Safety Harbor – Grand Power Stribog Glock Magazine AR Lower

Well, that title is a little gibberish-y, but I promise it’s completely accurate. At SHOT 2020 today Safety Harbor is showing off its newest product, an AR lower designed specifically to work with both the Grand Power Stribog upper and Glock magazines at the same time. It is almost, but not quite, an AR-9 lower that’s been modified for the Stribog. As I’m sure you are all aware, the first question anyone asks about any new gun that takes a pistol caliber cartridge is whether or not it takes Glock magazines. Well, now the Stribog does indeed take Glock magazines. As long as you’re willing to buy the Safety Harbor lower for it.

TFB Review: The UIC ADM4 Mod2 From ADM

The (UIC) ADM4 Mod 2 retails for $1,850. It is nice to see a company not try to reinvent the wheel, but to come out with a good mixture of parts they are good at producing mixed with parts from other industry leaders. Often when buying an AR, the initial purchase is just that. The initial purchase provides the foundation of the rifle. However, many parts are later purchased to upgrade to the user’s wants or needs. This results in drawers of parts the shooter does not need and useless expense. While user needs can fluctuate, most of the commonly upgraded features are already high-end parts on the ADM4 Mod 2.

Homemade Assault Rifles Found in Traffic Stop in Tennessee

During a routine traffic stop, a man from Tennessee was caught transporting two illegal homemade fully automatic assault rifles. While that sounds like the leader for a poorly written article about perfectly boring semiautomatic assault rifles, in this case it is accurate! Among other (apparently legal) weapons, two rifles, complete with three-position selectors and auto sears, were seized from the vehicle of one Scott Edmisten, who was stopped after driving 25 miles an hour over the speed limit on a suspended license.

EP Armory Selling Original Polymer AR-15 Molds Seized by the BATFE as Evidence

EP Armory announced the company was selling its original EP80-1 AR-15 lower molds. These are the same 80% AR lower molds that were seized by the BATFE as evidence. BATFE seized the molds in March of 2014 when the agency believed the molds produced lowers that should have been classified as firearms instead of unfinished (80%) parts.

Weldable AR15 Receivers From The Flat Spot

Beyond legos for gun nerds comes this soon-to-be-AR15-lower (aka package of raw metal) that can be transformed with skill and welding. Designed and machined by The Flat Spot, this assortment of metal is what I have dubbed a 25% lower receiver. Whereas 80% lower kits only require a drill press and finishing, this flat set requires welding and tapping of the receiver extension hole.

AR-15 Lower Receiver which Eliminates the Receiver Slack

The presence of slack between upper and lower receivers of AR-15 pattern rifles is sometimes considered a flaw of the design. Some people insist that it does affect the accuracy, others just find it annoying. In order to solve this problem, different manufacturers came up with various solutions. Perhaps the most known are the tensioning pins by JP Enterprises, but there are a couple of other products too (tensioning screws etc.).
