The Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS you see above was my last issued pistol, which I had to give up once I resigned after 15 years with my police department. Of my 21-year career in law enforcement, this was the fourth pistol I was issued, not including my personal Glock 22 I carried on duty for years. Of all the Glocks I’ve carried on duty, this Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS has been my favorite!

Holosun has grown to be an industry leader in optics in recent years. Many of their red dots and reflex sights have become some of the most popular options on the market, following on from more humble reputational beginnings. They have also dabbled in the night vision game, with their product catalog including a selection of infrared laser and illuminator units. Around SHOT Show 2023, Holosun revealed that they were working on getting deeper into the low-light shooting market by virtue of a pair of upcoming digital prototype optics, one thermal and one standard NV. Now a year later, the night vision model is ready and heading to market soon. In a January 11th Instagram post, Holosun announced that their DRS-NV is slated to ship to dealers within a matter of weeks. Check out the text of their post copied below for details.

Holosun, a leading manufacturer of innovative optics, is soon to release its latest technology, the Integrated Rifle Infrared System (IRIS), a compact, class IIIr visible green aiming device with updated features promising to improve night vision capabilities and bolster precision.

Holosun brought a pile of night vision accessories to SHOT Show 2024, and TFB’s resident night vision nerd Hop checked them out. The night vision and thermal optics that were revealed last year are finally coming to market, alongside new weapon lights, red dot sights, and an IR laser aiming module. And brand new to the show this year was a miniaturized thermal fusion sight that can be mounted to a pistol. Suffice to say if even half of these new products come out on time and on budget, it will dominate the night vision market for the next year.

In this installment, we’ll take a look at a rimfire 550-series SIG rifle. The SIG Sauer 556 rifle was born from the iconic Swiss SG 550 series. The 556 quickly emerged as a testament to SIG Sauer’s commitment to precision engineering and firearm innovation. Introduced in the early 2000s, the 556 quickly gained recognition for its exceptional accuracy, reliability, and versatility. Its gas piston operating system set it apart from traditional direct-impingement designs, delivering smoother recoil and enhanced durability. In response to American market demand and evolving shooting preferences, SIG Sauer introduced the SIG Sauer 522 in 2009. This variant, chambered in .22LR, retained the 556’s renowned ergonomics and aesthetics while offering a more cost-effective and recreational shooting experience.

C&H Precision Weapons has a new line of modular ring mounts for attaching red dots to scope tubes. Rather than place the secondary optic on top of the scope ring, C&H placed it on a ring so it could be placed anywhere on the main tube. This also allows it to sit at any angle.

The extremely popular Holosun SCS has just had a new bit of flexibility added to the platform with the addition of the new SCS-320 model. The new SCS-320 is a direct-mount Delta Point Pro footprint and should be a simple install to any optics-ready SIG P320 without the use of an adapter plate. The SCS-320 shares all of the same features and reticle options as the other versions of the SCS optic, this time just in a footprint that allows for a direct mount on P320 handguns and sporting a brand new fully enclosed design.

Introducing the Holosun 507COMP, a revolutionary red dot optic from Holosun designed specifically for competition shooters. With its near rifle-sized optic window that is instead built for handguns, the 507COMP offers an impressive increase in the shooting area compared to its predecessors. Equipped with the new Competition Reticle System (C.R.S.), shooters can choose from a range of precision options, including a 2MOA dot and various circle sizes. Boasting a durable 7075 T6 aluminum housing and a battery life of up to 50,000 hours, the Holosun 507COMP is set to redefine the competitive shooting experience and has even already been endorsed by a handful of pro shooters like Ben Stoeger.

Welcome to another edition of TFB’s Wheelgun Wednesday! This week, we’ll take a detailed look at the Taurus 856 TORO revolver, which is an optics-ready model straight from the factory. The Taurus 856 was already a capable six-shot, small-frame revolver, but the optics-ready T.O.R.O. treatment adds more versatility for those that prefer red dots on their concealed carry weapon. As cool and trendy as red dot sights are on handguns, they can add a bit more complexity to set up, and we’ll take a look at the hiccup I had mating these two systems. Let’s dig in!

Valhalla Tactical has been making their own light mounts and light bodies. Well, they have expanded their light options like the SOL (Selectable Orientation Light) light mount as well as manufacture their own light heads. With regards to their optic mounts, they already have an adapter plate for the Holosun SCRS.

At this year’s SHOT Show Industry at the Range day Holosun had a number of exciting optics on hand which won’t be available until later this year, but its great to know what’s in the pipeline. We’ve already looked at the promising new DRS TH and DRS NV prototypes Holosun brought to the range, alongside them was another new red dot sight for rifles – the SCRS. The model on the line was the green reticle SCRS GR2.

Holosun had a surprise for us at this year’s SHOT Show Industry at the Range day – a pair of brand new prototype optics. The DRS family includes a thermal optic and a night vision optic. While the optics were marked DMS, Holosun told us they would likely be launched as the DRS or Digital reflex Sight.

The next evolution for the home machinist is DIY RMR cuts in Glock slides with the Ghost Gunner 3 (GG3). Defense Distributed was kind enough to send in their Optic Cut Kit. I ran the code on two slides and documented the process. Let’s take a look at how you can machine your own RMR cut into slides in the convenience of your own home.

Davidson’s is one of the nation’s biggest wholesalers and they’re well known for being the sole distributor for a number of exclusive designs of firearms that you can’t find anywhere else. The Davidson’s Exclusive Gunsite GLOCK Service Pistol is their latest offering and is based on the Glock 45 as its core but features an included Holosun Red Dot optics directly mounted to the slide, as well as Ameriglo suppressor-height sights and custom engraving featuring the Gunsite Academy logo – a well-known firearms training academy located in Paulden, Arizona founded by the legendary Lt. Colonel Jeff Cooper.
