POTD: Turning In My Issued Pistol- It May Have Been My Last

Police Issued Pistol – Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS With Holosun 508T

The Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS you see above was my last issued pistol, which I had to give up once I resigned after 15 years with my police department. Of my 21-year career in law enforcement, this was the fourth pistol I was issued, not including my personal Glock 22 I carried on duty for years. Of all the Glocks I’ve carried on duty, this Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS has been my favorite!

Turning In My Last Issued Pistol

As pictured, my issued pistol was equipped with Trijicon Suppressor Height Night Sights, a Holosun 508T Red Dot, a Plus 2 magazine base plate, and my personal Streamlight TLR-1 weapon light. I certainly didn’t feel undergunned with this combination, and I was quite proficient with it. As I gave it a light cleaning on my last day, I wished I could’ve kept it. Time will tell if this was my last issued pistol, but if so, perhaps one day I’ll recreate this setup.

As the department armorer, I also added a little extra feature to the loaded chamber indicator nubs by painting the little ledge bright orange with fingernail polish on everyone’s issued pistols. I also added some white fingernail polish to the roll marks on my own.

I got tired of looking at a black-on-black loaded chamber indicator. I added some extra contrast to avoid having to do press checks.

For those of you who have been issued a pistol, what was your last one, and what one do you miss the most? If you could spec out your own duty pistol, what gun and accessories would you put together?

Well, I can tell you my least favorite......Smith and Wesson 2.0. The 1.0 was much better IMHO than the 2.0. And the problems we had with those pistols and the Smith rifles, so unfortunate. I sure hope you aren't completely done with L.E., but doing sniper school with you was great!

We had to provide our own so as long as it was on the departments approved gun list you could carry whatever you wanted. My LE career was fairly short, I carried, in order, a Ruger GP100, S&W 59 and a G21. I had no issues with any of them. It guts me to this day that I sold that S&W, never realizing at the time what sentimental value it would hold as time passed.

@Bill Lewis When I carried the GP100 it was 6 in the gun plus 4 speed loaders in pouches for a total of 30 rounds of .357 mag. The 9mm was 15+1 with 4 additional mags of 15 for a total of 76. I wish we would have had a Huggy Bear informant, I remember watching that show as child, it was pretty entertaining from what I remember.
