FN America announced an expansion of their FN 509 series pistol at the 2024 SHOT Show. The expansion includes new models, limited-edition colors and configurations, and compensator kits designed to enhance recoil mitigation. These releases mark the ongoing evolution of the FN 509 series, which spans 18 models across consumer and law enforcement lines. Let’s take a look at the New FN America pistols and compensator kits.

FN America have announced the introduction of a new addition to their FN 509 series of polymer-framed pistols. The FN 509 Midsize Tactical comes in black and FDE with FN’s ‘Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System’ and weighs in at 27.9 oz.

After a series of tests that included a 20,000 round endurance qualification, the FN 509 MRD-LE has been selected as the new LAPD Duty Pistol. All of the new pistols will feature FN’s MRD optics mounting system which will bring red dot capabilities to one of the largest police departments in the United States. Although the press release does not include information on a contract amount or the number of pistols to be provided, the award covers a five year period and provides guns to the entire 10,000 person department.

Beginning on Tuesday, October 27th, owners of the FN 509 will be able to purchase the long-awaited 5″ long slide from Apex Tactical. The Apex Tactical Team has been hard at work developing this new FN 509 Long Slide that comes fully assembled and loaded down with features.

FN America have announced the introduction of an FDE version of their  FN 509 Midsize MRD. It has FN’s low-profile MRD optics-mounting system, it has taller iron sights suitable for either suppressor use or co-witnessing with the red dot you choose to mount. The new pistol has an MSRP of $799.00.

FN America, LLC has announced a BRAND NEW iteration of their popular polymer-frame, striker-fired pistol that now accepts red dot sights with the FN 509 Midsize MRD 9mm! This optics ready package expands on the 509 lineup of pistols to provide something more compact and concealable yet serve as a great range pistol as well. This midsize category of handguns with a 15-Round capacity continues to become more and more popular, and FN is cashing in on that idea of full-sized performance in a concealed carry package.

FN America have announced the launch of a pair of FN 509s in a unique FDE finish, the new 509s will be available exclusively from Bill Hicks & Co. The Standard and Tactical variants of FN’s current flagship pistol are available with standard 17 round magazines but also 10 round magazines.

Arizona-based Apex Tactical Specialties have announced some new after-market parts for FN’s 509. A new threaded barrel and a ‘failure resistant extractor’.

FN America have announced the launch of a new model in their 509 family, a mid sized carry pistol. FN have also confirmed that the FN Tactical will also be available in a matte black finish in 2019.

I remember in the LE world during the introduction of the original Taser M-Series (and requirement that we get tased as part of training). We used to joke “What’s next-having to get shot by your own handgun to qualify with it?”  Nowadays, that is a distinct possibility with the widespread availability of Simunition® training using modified firearms. FN America and General Dynamics have teamed up to create a new Simunition® pistol based on the 509 platform for law enforcement training.  To delineate it as a Simunition®-only platform, the pistol features a blue frame and blue Simunition slide/barrel assembly, as well as blue magazine baseplates.  The frame and fire control group should be compatible with regular FN 509 slides, however.  (If one was so inclined to have a blue frame/black slide FN 509, this would be one rather expensive way to go about it.)

Yet another super tempting rebate has been announced, this time from FN America for the FN 509. With all the options for some of the best deals I have seen in the gun market for some time, it sure isn’t making consumer’s lives easier. It is a whole lot cheaper to get into a quality pistol with a respectable number of mags than it has ever been though.
