In recent years, Holosun has significantly elevated the quality of their red dot optics from the strictly “budget” category to become legitimate serious contenders. Many of their products, such as the 507 series, are now worth mentioning in the same conversations with established standards like the Trijicon RMR. Primary Arms, who started as an optics company in their own right before expanding to be the full-scope supplier and firearms industry powerhouse they are today, share much in common with Holosun. Their early scopes were often relegated to the purely entry-level or plinker considerations sets and not seen as viable for more serious use. Over the years they have similarly grown their offerings and expanded into higher price points with notably higher quality levels to match.

The venerable 1911 – you’d be hard-pressed to find a shooter who isn’t at least broadly familiar with this classic design. Through 75 years of military service and countless variations on John Moses Browning’s original model, some have hated it and many have loved it. As it has aged, the 1911 has come to spark some division among gun tribes between its impassioned adherents and modernists who believe it has outlived usefulness in this day and age.

Italian gunmaker Pietta has partnered with Davidson’s to produce two new exclusive revolvers. Founded in 1963, Pietta specializes in historical weapons. The brace of brass-and-blued model 1873s will be available chambered in .357 Magnum and the classic . 45 Long Colt. Brownells, a purveyor of fantastic firearms products, is on a bit of a tear recently. Using their buying power, Brownells has been expanding products under their own brand and focusing on releasing Brownells’ exclusive items. Latest in that trend is their partnership with Polymer80, which has yielded the Brownells exclusive Coyote color.

Edward takes a look at the distributor exclusives that Davidson’s had on display at SHOT 2017. As one of the largest shooting sports distributors in America, they have one of the most expansive catalogs and boast an extensive selection of exclusive finishes.

Two days ago I published a blog post with diagrams of the REVOLUTIONARY Taiwanese T86 rifle. This AR-15-style rifle featured not only a self-contained piston gas system back in 1998, long before the piston-AR craze in the USA, but it also featured the first drop-in trigger for an AR-15. Sadly this rifle was as unknown in the West as it was innovative. 

Sturm, Ruger & Co. is always willing to do limited runs for distributors and others who are willing to pony up the cash.  In this case, TALO, Inc. worked with Ruger to produce a couple of purple pistols.
