It seems that capacity is still king – at least in SIG’s mind. SIG Sauer had myself and TFBTV’s Hop out to their new SIG Experience Center back in July 2022 to get the low-down on not only the new SEC but also their latest compact handgun – the new 17-round capacity SIG P365 X-Macro pistol. This new pistol expands on the idea of the P365 even further by taking elements from the extremely popular P365 Spectre Comp and combining it with an all-new slide design that still manages to be a mere 1.1″ in width even with its 17-round standard magazine capacity. The NEW 17-Round Capacity Compensated SIG P365 X-Macro
The biggest feature of the P365 X-Macro is, of course, the new Macro-Compact grip module. This new grip module looks very similar in shape and size to the previously released SIG Sauer P322 rimfire pistol. In reality, it’s slightly shorter in both length and height and now features replaceable backstraps. As an added bonus, the P365 X-Macro’s frame also features a standard 1913 Picatinny rail for a simplified weapon light mounting solution.
Like the P365 Spectre Comp, the X-Macro also includes a ported slide design that aims to cut down on recoil and muzzle flip and performs at its best when paired with hotter ammunition like defensive handgun ammo. Like previous versions of the P365 pistol, the P365 X-Macro still retains the FCU meaning there will probably be lots of customization options down the road via the SIG FCU Studio, however, the pistol pretty much comes equipped from the factory ready to accept any accessories you might want. The pistol will feature an RMSc optic footprint and will come standard with two 17-round magazines. Suffice it to say parts interchangeability is nearly 100%.
Initial Impressions
As I said earlier, the P365 X-Macro was revealed to both Hop and me at a dedicated media event last July. During that event, we had the opportunity to put a lot of rounds through the pistols in various configurations and even competed in a miniature IDPA/USPSA-inspired match along with SIG’s Daniel Horner, Lena Miculek, and Taran Butler just to name a few. The pistols operated flawlessly using SIG’s 365 Elite Ball ammunition and the performance of the compensator really showed through during the competition phase of the event.
I’m still not 100% sold on the necessity of a compensator for a concealed carry-focused gun, however, SIG is likely to produce a full-length (P365 XL) sized slide version of the X-Macro sometime down the road so if you’re not a huge fan of the Spectre Comp or pistol compensators in general, you have that to look forward to.
Before you have to ask, yes, slides are interchangeable (I’ve tested this both ways) meaning you could theoretically place a P365 XL slide on the X-Macro frame and vice versa. Additionally, the magazines are backward compatible and I think this means that the mags might become more popular than the pistol itself. According to what we’re told by SIG, you should be able to expect to find the SIG P365 X-Macro for as low as $799.99.
