[SHOT 2019] Alien Gear Shapeshift Modular Holster System – Core Carry & Expansion Packs
Alien Gear has had their Shapeshift Modular Holster System out for some time now. In fact, our esteemed Editor in Chief, Tom, reviewed their ankle holster after using it for work for roughly 4 months with positive feedback. With the ability to seamlessly transition from Outside-the-Waistband (OWB) to Inside-the-Waistband (IWB) to Ankle and other positions of carry, it is no wonder why this is such a popular option from Alien Gear Holsters. While Alien Gear did not unveil a flurry of new holsters at SHOT Show 2019 they did bring us even more options through their Shapeshift Modular Holster System with a NEW Core Carry and Expansion Pack.
Alien gear shapeshift modular holster system – core carry pack
The Alien Gear Shapeshift Modular Holster System Core Carry Pack, formerly known as the Starter Kit, gives a concealed carry holder the ability to switch between three choices and styles of carry based on their daily needs:
- IWB Hip
- IWB Appendix Carry
- OWB Belt Slide
- OWB Paddle Holster
This kit gives you all of the essentials, hardware, and nitty-griity components to build out 4 different styles of holsters for carry. For someone who is uncertain how they would like to carry yet desire a high quality product, the Core Carry Pack from Alien Gear could be perfect. This package has an MSRP of $99.88 for everything.
Alien gear shapeshift modular holster system – Expansion pack
The Alien Gear Shapeshift Modular Holster System Expansion Packs are meant to be small supplementary items if you already utilize the Shapeshift System or have the Core Carry Pack. At SHOT Show we were able to see some unique options like MOLLE, Backpack, and Pocket carry selections you could add into your personal collection of Shapeshift holsters. The pricing for these different expansion packs varies from $15 all the way to $100 depending on how elaborate they are. All in all, the Expansion Packs help completely round out the Core Carry Pack for a truly complete holster system.
So while Alien Gear did not have a treasure chest of new holsters for us to fondle they did round out their Shapeshift Modular Holster System really well. So what do you think? Is the Core Carry Pack and associated Expansion Packs something that you would be willing to put your everyday carry pistol in? Let us know your thoughts in the Comments below! We always appreciate the feedback.

Got the Core Pack. Currently only able to use the AIWB holster. Glocks with XS sights won't work in the other configurations.
Really like the system.
I like my shape shift holster and I do alternate my carry depending on what I am wearing and how I feel for that day. Range day or going to certain outdoor areas I carry it openly in paddle or OWB belt mode. If I am wearing a heavy jacket and going to some locations where I don't want my gun seen I will switch to the high OWB.
For summer, spring, and early fall I typically use my IWB options and on occasion move the appendix holster to my side as a compact IWB side carry.
The only thing I wish is that they would find a way to make shape shift shells compatible with lights/laser systems.
The fact that some folks complained about the alien head is a bit weird. Hope you don't drink anything that shows the company's name or logo on it.
