SERVE AND PROTECT: Police Departments chose SIG Sauer

SIG Sauer USA has several reasons to celebrate after two police departments chose their firearms and optics.

As always, you win some lose some. In Berlin, Germany, SIG lost the Police department deal to H&K and due to ITAR they are out of the competition for the next service rifle for Germany. But they won an order in Germany for several hundred SIG MCX.

We’ve combined two Press Releases from SIG Sauer USA below:

El Monte Police Department Adopts a SIG SAUER Complete Systems Solution

    Newington, NH (May 21, 2018)

SIG SAUER, Inc. is proud to announce that the El Monte Police Department has selected a full package of SIG SAUER products to create a solution for the department’s mission. The package includes pistols, rifles, suppressors and electro-optics.

Founded in 1912, the El Monte Police Department’s 123 sworn officers serve an area 12 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Initiated through the department’s SWAT division, SWAT Team Leader Sgt. Mark Snook began the acquisition process with handguns in both 9mm and 45 auto from SIG SAUER, HK®, Glock® and FN®, as well as a rifle and suppressor package in 5.56 NATO.

SIG SAUER submitted the latest version of the SIG MCX® rifle equipped with an SRD556 suppressor.

“The overwhelming decision was the SIG 226 and 229 in 9mm and the 220 in 45 auto,” said Sgt. Snook. “I, along with the rest of the SWAT team, pushed for the Legion models as they are the top of the line SIG models, and they already include all of the upgraded features we were looking for.”

Upon seeing the SWAT acquisition, El Monte Police Chief David Reynoso determined the new firearms were the best option for their officers, and expanded the acquisition to supply the entire department with the new handguns.

The SWAT team also selected the SIG SAUER rifle and suppressor package for duty use. The rifles submitted for evaluation included SIG SAUER Electro-Optics ROMEO4T™ red dot sights and JULIET4™ magnifiers.

Although the department wasn’t looking to acquire new optics, the officers involved in the evaluation process determined the Electro-Optics products were superior to their older red dot sights, and have begun the process to add them to the acquisition.

“We have a long history of providing the best quality firearms for law enforcement use, it’s exciting to be able to create a solution tailored to meet the mission of any department,” said Tom Jankiewicz, Executive Vice President, Law Enforcement Sales. “We are humbled that officers trust their lives to our products.”

    SIG SAUER P320 pistol

As if that was not enough, the Bismarck Police Department selected the SIG SAUER P320 pistol.

    Newington, NH (March 21, 2018) –

SIG SAUER, Inc. is proud to announce that the Bismarck Police Department has selected the P320 striker-fired pistol as its handgun of choice.

The city commission approved the purchase of 140 SIG SAUER P320 handguns equipped with X RAY3 pistol sights, for faster sight acquisition under all lighting conditions.

“The department needs to replace our handguns due to some documented malfunctions and reliability concerns over the last couple of years,” said Bismarck Police Chief Dan Donlin, speaking of their current sidearm.

Employing its cadre of certified firearms instructors, the department conducted extensive testing of firearms from three manufacturers. In addition to the P320, the department tested the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0, and the Glock® 17 & 19. According to Chief Donlin, the decision was quickly narrowed down to the SIG SAUER P320 based on performance and reliability.

“The SIG SAUER, in the majority of opinions, outperformed the Glock,” Donlin said. “It provided a lot more overall comfort and handling in the varying hand sizes of our officers,” noting the modularity of the P320, with its three sizes of grip module to choose from.

“The SIG, out of the box, was very accurate. Even our best shooters couldn’t believe how much better they shot with the SIG versus the Glock.”

“SIG SAUER is very proud to have been chosen by the Bismarck Police Department,” said Tom Jankiewicz, Executive Vice President, Law Enforcement Sales. “The P320 was chosen because of its modularity, accuracy and most importantly its reliability. These officers put their lives on the line, and we’re humbled to have our products chosen to help keep them safe.”

There it is. Fuel to the fire on the eternal battle which handgun is the best. Scroll back if you missed it. Look forward to reading the comments.

It would be interesting to see the feedback from the Police if they had added the B&T upgrade for the SIG Sauer P320, B&T USW320, into the benchmark.
