DRONE SNIPER Introduced by Jammer Korea at [AUSA 2017]

    At the 2017 Association of the United States Army annual meeting, Korean optics maker DI Optical was showing off many of their familiar products, but also had on display an interesting looking rifle attachment from a company called Jammer Korea. The attachment, named the “DRONE SNIPER”, is a familiar multi-frequency radio jammer, but in a slick underbarrel package that weighs much less than current standalone launchers.

    According to company representatives, the Drone Sniper weighs less than four pounds, which is far, far lighter than the 15 pounds of the 2nd Generation Battelle DroneDefender. The company literature also makes an interesting point: Most drone jammers operate on the premise that a drone will autoland if its signal to its controller is lost. However, many drones have a setting where instead of autolanding, they will hover in place upon loss of signal. In this situation, auxiliary firearms would be employed to destroy the drone or bring it down. Jammer Korea makes the point that slinging a lightweight jammer under a firearm allows a single operator to take down a drone by jamming it in place, and then shooting it down. Of course, though the Drone Sniper is displayed attached to an M4 Carbine inert clone, it is likely that a shotgun would be a better choice of host platform in urban environments.
