POTD: SBS Benelli M4 Shotgun With Wood Furniture

It’s not every day you see a Benelli M4 shotgun, especially one with wood furniture and a shortened barrel (SBS). Today’s Photo of the Day comes from Josh Herring of Cotton Branch Custom Firearms, featuring his SBS Benelli M4. You may have already seen some of his other photos with his now iconic rough finished wood table, coat of arms patch of his business, and of course, a customer’s finished product. Josh describes his SBS Benelli M4 below.

Restoring and Making an SBS From a Remington 870 Shotgun

Last fall, I wrote about my experience with the ATF Form 1 process to make a Short Barreled Shotgun (SBS). Between buying my 1980’s vintage Remington 870 Magnum, getting the ATF approval, and actually making it into an SBS has been a long time, admittedly though, purely self induced. My goal has been to do as much of the work myself, rather than to send it off and have the work done for me. That way, I save some money, and learn things in the process.

TFB TUTORIAL: How To Fingerprint Yourself For NFA Applications

Due to the fingerprint requirement for National Firearms Act (NFA) applications, some people have sought the services of law enforcement, while others look to do it for themselves.  Just to clarify, you can fingerprint yourself when applying to the ATF to make a Short Barreled Rifle or Shotgun (SBR/SBS) and for suppressors.  When using your local sheriff’s office, you can probably expect to pay anywhere from $5 to $15 (my department charges $10), so if you’d like to save a few bucks, especially when you plan to submit multiple applications, doing your own fingerprints is a solid solution.

My First ATF EForm 1: Easier And Faster Than I Expected

I finally did it.  After years of hem-hawing and debating the ATF EForm 1 process, I am now officially an owner of a National Firearms Act (NFA) Stamp.  I didn’t get struck by lightning and all my animals are still alive.  Not only that, but it was much easier than I ever thought it could be, and by using the ATF’s online EForms process, it was much quicker than the paper version. Settle in and learn how you can join in on the fun too.

More ATF Reclassification: Fostech Origin SBV Now NFA Regulated

Pursuant to an ATF determination earlier this summer, the FosTech Origin SBV firearm now falls under the purview of the National Firearms Act (NFA). The Origin SBV is equipped with a smooth bore barrel that is less than 18” in length, but utilizes a pistol stabilizing brace instead of a shoulder stock. The setup, once believed to avoid NFA regulations, has been reclassified as either a Short Barreled Shotgun (SBS) or an Any Other Weapon (AOW) requiring an NFA registration and transfer application and taxes.

Steyr Releases THB Manners Rifle .308 Win and 6.5 Creedmoor

I have been shooting different models of Steyr SBS rifles for over 10 years and have enjoyed each one. They have smooth and robust actions, good triggers, reliable magazines, and a well-designed safety/bolt release.  On top of all that they have all shot very well. I attribute that fact in large part to their cold hammer forged barrels. (Check out this article to learn more about the process). I mention all of this to explain my interest whenever Steyr comes out with a new offering. I still hold the belief that one of the coolest rifles of SHOT 2019 was the Steyr Monobloc.  Also displayed at the 2019 SHOT Show, albeit to much less fanfare, was the THB precision rifle in the Manners Composite Stock.

POTD: Mullet 3Gun

Short in the front, long in the back. All mullet. Photo belongs to Taylor M. He claims this is his new 3Gun setup. I am sure it was meant as a joke. Or maybe he is so good he just wants to give himself a handicap to make the game more challenging. With this setup, he could compete in tac limited division since he is running a pump action shotgun and a non-magnified optic on his AR. Depending on the stage design this might not be a terrible setup. If the targets are not far out then the short barrel won’t make a difference. Reloading the shotgun would be tedious with such small capacity but he could switch to the handgun and make up for the shotgun.

Is A Sawed Off Shotgun Better?

Have you ever wondered what benefit a sawed off shotgun barrel gives you? Does it spread the shot more? Does it remove the need to aim? Does reduced barrel length change anything? There is only one way to find out!

EForms For ATF Form 1 Applications – This Time Via Silencer Shop

The first anniversary of the enactment of ATF Rule 41F is only a few weeks away. Most of us will be remembering the run up to the July 13th deadline as an NFA buying panic of epic proportions. And all of us will remember the resulting slowdown that followed. However, a few faithful NFA makers will remember the upcoming milestone as the day the ATF’s NFA Efile system for consumer use was powered down forever. However, like the fingerprint scanning kiosk system that dealt with post 41F purchases, Silencer Shop is releasing a new system that allows everyone to electronically file ATF Form 1 applications from anywhere, in about five minutes.

Kjaskaar Tests the Ludicrously Short Barreled Shotgun from "Killing Them Softly"

Practical or not, short-barreled sawed off shotguns are nothing if not cool. Two short, big bores on a frame with nothing but a pistol grip says “bad***” like little else.

Remington 870 Tac-14 (Non-SBS) Introduced

Just in time for NRA 2017, Remington has just introduced their 870 Tac-14 shotgun which falls into a category not covered by NFA short-barreled shotgun regulations although it is a 14-inch barrel. The shotgun utilizes a Shockwave Raptor pistol grip that is neither a stock nor a true pistol grip but is really just somewhere inbetween. Not mentioned is the tubular magazine capacity, but we believe it to be around 3-4 shells in addition to one chambered. Overall length is 26.2 inches and the MSRP is 443.05 dollars.
