The Galil ACE by IWI is the successor to the classic Israeli Galil that was itself an upgraded Kalashnikov. But is this new design worthy of the name Galil, a rifle that we here at TFB love? Can it redeem the good name of IWI after the Tavor, Uzi Pro, and X95? Well these questions can be answered by an 810 round reliability test and review.

For those of you not familiar with RS Regulate, they make some of the best AK side rails and mounts out there. This time at the Big 3 East event, Scott showed us his latest MLOK handguard for IWI’s Galil ACE. This one was a metal 3D printed protoype. It is a 6 inch handguard for the pistol. Scott will make a 12 inch version for the rifle Galil ACE. The handguard will have integrated QD holes and have 5 sides of MLOK holes.

In October, I traveled out to see my co-writer Alex C. to collect data on the weights of different long guns and some of their components. Over that weekend, I weighed 58 rifles and submachine guns, and numerous magazines, bolts, bolt carriers, and other miscellaneous items. The purpose of this was not only to collate a general list of the weights of different weapons, but to be able to enhance the accuracy of a previous spreadsheet I’d produced showing the loaded “combat” weights of different rifles; that being available at this link.

Bad news for those looking forward to the latest Israeli Kalashnikov rifle: IWI’s launch of the Galil ACE to the US market has been delayed, according to a post on the US division’s Facebook page:

Introduced in late 2014, the Hi-Lux Optics MicroMax B-Dot is a mini red-dot sight that’s in the same category as the popular Aimpoint Micro T-1. Since, I have previously reviewed their optics ( CMR 1-4x review) for TFB, Hi-Lux Optics asked me for some design inputs during the development phase of this mini red-dot.

IWI US will introduce several versions of the Galil Ace chambered in 7.62 NATO later this year. The new guns will be available as both pistols and rifles. The new guns will use SR-25 pattern magazines, and will ship with 20-round Magpul Pmags.

At SHOT I was fortunate enough to run a few rounds through the IWI Galil ACE. All in all, I enjoyed it!

The Military Arms Chanel is reporting that IWI US will begin importing a Galil Ace rifle and Galil Ace pistol into the United States starting in 2015.
