Extremely Limited Edition – Galil Ace in 5.45×39

In a world dominated by AR15s, it’s always nice to see alternatives that make you want to open the wallet. For instance the Type 81 LMG in Canada, but also this Galil Ace in 5.45x39mm. IWI USA calls it “extremely limited edition” and it comes with either a 16″ or 8.3″ barrel. There are only 545 units produced in both barrel lengths (I wonder what made them come up with that number). If you purchase one, you can contact IWI and they will send you a Certificate of Authenticity that corresponds with your serial number.

SILENCER SATURDAY #103: The Galil ACE Suppressed – KNS Style

Good morning everyone and welcome back to another edition of TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, home of the Turbo K2. Last week we dove into an academic exercise regarding the normalization of suppressors by the government, industry and consumers alike. The comment section was lively, with most of us agreeing that the perception of silencers, the NFA process and NFA laws need to change. In case anyone is wondering, my stance on any bans is absolute – we should focus our efforts on criminal actions, not inanimate objects. This week we are back out on the range with a IWI Galil ACE suppressed with a SilencerCo Saker and outfitted with a KNS Precision AK Adjustable Gas Piston. Thank you to both IWI and KNS for loaning me the equipment for today’s Silencer Saturday evaluation.

RS Regulate Updates IWI Galil With Handguard – Big 3 East

Scott of RS Regulate has been working closely with IWI to develop an upgraded handguard for the Galil. The handguard is machined aluminum. It has three supports along the top to prevent crushing the U shaped handguard. The scalloped indentations allow for positive thumb control and the fence allows heat to dissipate while protecting you from touching the gas tube. There are QD sling mounts at the ends of the handguard. The handguards will be available in keymod and MLOK. They will be avalable in 10″ and 14″ lengths. He will make a shorter version for the Galil pistols. The 10″ handguard weighs a mere 6.5oz. It will cost about $225 MSRP but will probably be under $200.

Review: Galil ACE GAP39SB-Backpack Sized 7.62×39 Firepower

IWI’s Galil ACE series of firearms was highly anticipated by many throughout the firearms world.  A series of unfortunate events with the introduction of the platform to the US market most cruelly resulted in pistols being recalled due to noncompliance of regulations.  Though elusive for a long time, pistols and rifles are now in regular supply, and I was nicely surprised to find examples of both while stopping by one of my favorite brick and mortar gun stores.  The Galil ACE GAP39SB was designed to be a more controllable version of the GAP39II pistol, yet is just as compact due to the folding nature of its brace.  Chambered in the affordable and widely available 7.62×39 and using AK47 magazines, the GAP39SB is as close as the US civilian market can get to the compact Galil ACE 31 carbine without NFA paperwork.
