POTD: Port of Djibouti
In TFB’s Photo Of The Day, the camera has more to say than the written word to tell the story. We’re looking at US, Djibouti, and Japan navy personnel as they partner in trilateral engagement to combat illegal shipping.
POTD: Sniper in Djibouti
The hungriest beast of them all on this blog is our Photo Of The Day. It consumes hundreds of images every month, and it has been doing so for over 9 years. Here we see U.S. Army Spc. Jackson Shlef, a sniper assigned to the East Africa Response Force (EARF), as he observes a position during training at Arta Range, Djibouti, earlier this year. What do you think of the improvised shooting position?
POTD: Patrolling the Gulf of Tadjoura
Photo Of The Day and everyone will get their share of the American Flag in these images. We’re located in the Port of Djibouti, with the U.S. Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron Eleven (MSRON-1. The Gulf of Tadjoura is a body of water located in the Horn of Africa, between the countries of Djibouti and Somalia. It is an extension of the Indian Ocean and is connected to the Red Sea through the Bab-el-Mandeb strait. The gulf is approximately 120 kilometers long and 20 to 30 kilometers wide, with a maximum depth of about 300 meters.
POTD: East Africa Response Force at Arta Range, Djibouti
Our Photo Of The Day daily article series will take you to some very exciting and unusual places sometimes. Like today, where we see a Barrett M82 / M107A1 at the Arta Range in Djibouti. Here we see U.S. Army soldiers as they play around with and shoot this sniper rifle during an East Africa Response Force (EARF) training on January 24, 2023.
POTD: Armed Forces of Djibouti – Bataillon d'Intervention Rapide
One of the purposes of TFB’s Photo Of The Day is to broaden the audience for the excellent work done by professionals like the combat photographers at the 1st Combat Camera Squadron. Here we have soldiers from the Armed Forces of Djibouti (FAD) Bataillon d’Intervention Rapide (BIR) discuss the best plan of attack prior to moving toward an objective during a situational training exercise (STX) in November 2020. The exact location is undisclosed. The Security Forces Assistance Brigade (SFAB) trains the BIR in squad, platoon and battalion-level drills to help them gain experience and improve efficiency.
POTD: French, Italian, U.S. Forces – Joint Sniper Range in Djibouti
We hope you’re having a fantastic day! Today we’re taking you to Djibouti for some sniping. POTD: M110A1 CSASS – Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa
Photo Of The Day: Above we see Spc. Jacob Mink, a scout sniper assigned to 2nd Platoon, Bravo Company, 1-149th, Infantry Battalion, Task Force Red Dragon, Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, as he provides security during Exercise WAKRI 22 near Ali Sabieh, Djibouti. He’s using the M110A1 Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System (CSASS), which is a development from Heckler & Koch’s HK417 in 7.62×51 mm. Note the optics from SIG Sauer and the tape covering the suppressor, probably to avoid sand and dust getting into the system. The suppressor cover is from Armageddon Gear.
POTD: Proficiency Training in Djibouti
Welcome to TFB’s Photo Of The Day. As the name implies, this page is dedicated to rare and unique pics which are updated daily, and I guess that short shotgun got your attention? Did you ever fire one? What did you think? Did you find it hard or easy to hit your target? These pictures are from an undisclosed location in Djibouti, where members of the 82nd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron conducted proficiency training across multiple weapon systems earlier this year.
POTD: U.S. Military Training with Djiboutian Soldiers
For years we at TFB have been running our Photo Of The Day. It’s not a photo competition, it’s all about finding and sharing excellent pictures and giving the photographer credit for his or her great work. Today we visit Djibouti City in – you guessed it – Djibouti. We’re looking at Djiboutian soldiers with the Rapid Intervention Battalion (RIB), a Djiboutian army elite military force as they practice tactical reloading with their AKs.
POTD: Range Day in Djibouti
Above, in a country far far away, we can see U.S. Army soldiers equipped with M4 carbines, Mossberg 500 shotguns, and M320 grenade launcher modules to practice their weapons skills at a firing range in Djibouti. This is the topic for our Photo Of The Day.
