Photo Of The Day: Start, or continue, your day with a collection of pictures from when the British Royal Marine Commandos conducted rapid target acquisition drills during a close-quarters tactics course at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, July 12, 2023. These soldiers are assigned to a Commando Strike Team, attached to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

The training to become a member of the Danish Jægerkorpset is described as a marathon with many surprising obstacles that all require something very special to get through. The everyday life will be busy, but full of exciting courses and exercises both at home and abroad. During international service, one can expect to be among the first in the area to handle tasks such as threat assessments and personal protection.

It’s kind of hard to see what’s going on in this Photo Of The Day, but that’s how snipers like it. You are looking at a sniper from the Marinejegerkommandoen (MJK) / Norwegian Naval Special Operation Commando during an exercise and training. You can see the muzzle flash from his Heckler & Koch HK417 and you can just barely make out his Schmidt & Bender riflescope, and some of the rubber bands around it. Bottom-right you can see the dangerous end of the spotter’s firearm, most likely a suppressed Colt C8 carbine.

We have Operators from Forsvarets SpesialKommando (FSK) (Norwegian Special Operation Commando) during an exercise with the 352nd Special Operations Wing and their Bell-Boeing CV-22 Osprey at Rygge Air Base in Norway.

Royal Marine Commandos are the topic of our Photo Of The Day. Here they are using a cordless angle grinder to get through a barrier in an urban set up in the Great North Road Tunnel. The photo was taken during Exercise Serpent Rock last year. The firearm is most likely a Colt C8.

The camera loves the light, and in Iraq there’s plenty of sunshine. Today we look at a Danish soldier, scanning his sector of fire during a base defense exercise supporting Operation Task Force Dragon at Al Asad Air Base, Iraq.

Photo Of The Day and we take off to an exciting place called Kabul, in Afghanistan. We’re looking at the Afghan Special Police and their Crisis Response Unit 222 (CRU222) being trained and monitored by Norwegian Naval Special Operation Commandos.

“Prepare for tomorrow’s threats, today” – that is the motto of the Norwegian Marinejegerkommandoen (MJK), a unit name that translates to the Norwegian Naval Special Operation Commando.
