Looking for high-visibility iron sights for your 1911-pattern pistol? XS Sights has just expanded their lineup to meet your wishes. They’ve recently announced they have R3D 2.0 tritium-powered night sights compatible with three different 1911-style handguns.

The R3D 2.0 lineup itself isn’t new; we had our first look at these sights last September. They use a simple notch-and-post design, with two tritium dots on the rear sight and an orange or green dual-illuminated Glow Dot front sight, using self-luminous tritium material to glow in low light, or no light, for 12 years. A proprietary photoluminescent material surrounds the tritium vial in the front, absorbing ambient light to glow in low-light conditions, making the front brighter than the rear. The front sight is 0.145 inches wide, thicker than many on the market. Add it all up, and the R3D 2.0 sights are supposed to have increased precision and accuracy, and they’re supposed to be quick to use in poor lighting conditions.
Another advantage to the R3D 2.0 sights is that they use XS Sights’ new EasyPress feature, so they’re supposed to be easier to install, with no need for filing and hammering. They come with a black nitride finish that’s supposed to resist corrosion better than the black oxide finish that came on the original R3D sights. Other tweaks to the 2.0-series sights include minor updates to make the sights visibly brighter in low-light conditions.
