Welcome everyone to the 226th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, deemed the 5TC Kryptek camo gat to be nothing more than fudd crap.

At this time the original auction remains up on GunBroker with the Arctic Kryptek AR still up for grabs.  We can only hope this rifle will find its way to a new home in the not-so-distant future.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom Accuracy International AT chambered in .308 Win. As is tradition, this brightly painted gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $8,000 Buy It Now.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“The paint scheme is goofy, but otherwise it’s a HOT GAT. Even though I’ll never afford an AI, I was privileged to be able to shoot one at sniper school.” – Doug E.

Accuracy International – a brand that started off as three guys in a shed that’s now known the world over. These rifles always fetch a premium and are universally loved in the precision rifle community. I’m not sure what drives the modification of certain firearms, but I certainly wasn’t expecting to see this color scheme on an AT308.  It looks like the carpet at an arcade met the old Solo Cup design.

Accuracy International rifles have always had their quirks.  Only in recent years did they swap over from the now-dated KeyMod to more modern M-LOK pattern designs. Accessories and mounts seem to be a few years behind, but at least there’s a Pic rail extension for a forward-mounted bipod.  Does that justify the price tag or the absurd paint scheme? I don’t think so, but hey, at least the Samsonite case is discreet.

What do you think?  Is this custom AT308 worth it for $8,000 or has the seller simply lost their mind? As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
