HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Blue Kryptek or Arctic Train Wreck?

Welcome everyone to the 225th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the custom 6.5 Grendel Seekins was nothing more than fudd crap.

The original auction is still up with no bidders electing to take that first $2,300 leap. All of us can now only hope that this gat will find its way to a new home in the not-so-distant future.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom Kryptek camo AR-15 chambered in .223/5.56. As is tradition, this very blue gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $4,750 Buy It Now.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“The price is wrong by a digit, which is appropriate for a company with ‘toes’ in the name. ” -Daniel Y.

”Is it a rifle or a kaleidoscope?” -Eric B.

“Happy Gilmore says The price is wrong!” – Rusty S.

“Note that this firearm is used, meaning that there’s at least one person other than you with incredibly poor taste and indiscriminate spending problems.” James Reeves

“Now you can have the rifle from Avatar – The Musical – Pete”

HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Blue Kryptek or Arctic Train Wreck?

For those who know this series, this is usually the part where I try to go over these guns and explain something about them. I look for nice things to say so that you can tear things up in the comment section. Well, this week we’re turning that ship around because everything from the camo choice to the price tag on this rifle is grotesque. And yes, I know this camo was in the running when the military was picking out a new camouflage. How a camo that looks like a distorted snake skin shed ever was considered is beyond me. The good news is you get a red dot and a gun that looks like you unlocked it playing the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The bad news is, it’s gonna cost you $4,750. That’s a pretty expensive way to try to level up.

What do you think? Is this Five Toes Custom AR-15 worth anywhere near $4,750 or are you better off saving your money for a rainy day? As always, I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.

I just wish that the cost and the hotness of the gat were separated. There are a lot of hot gats selling for too much money, maybe there should be two votes, one for hotness and one for what it's worth.

Beware of of any seller using the term “RARE” to troll for sucker buyers in a gun ad. The only thing “RARE” about this gat AR is the ridiculously laughable asking price. Ray’s Sporting Goods founder, the late Lawrence “Crazy Ray” Brantley would be proud of this crazy attempt at 500% plus markup. Those of us who had the misfortune of shopping for a firearm back in the day in this infamous Dallas gun store remember the eccentric antics of owner “Crazy Ray” who ruled his retail space from an elevated perch in the rear of the store ever watchful of every customer who entered. “Crazy Ray” employed crazy customer service practices like maybe ordering a gun counter employee not to allow a customer to handle a firearm unless they purchased it first, or if he felt too many customers were looking and not buying, he’d suddenly and angrily announce over the store PA system that the store was now closed at which point all customers were herded out and the front door locked for 30 minutes or so to make sure those pesky non-buyers were gone.
