[SHOT 2024] Federal And Remington - New Ammo Releases From Vista Outdoor
The Fusion series from Federal Ammunition has, over the past 18 years, established itself among hunters and shooters for its performance and reliability. With this launch, the series now surpasses 50 products across three distinct families, demonstrating Federal’s commitment to innovation in bonded-core technology. Stability and accuracy, crucial over different environmental conditions, gain significantly from the polymer tip’s ability to minimize wind drift and drop while still maximizing downrange energy.

The Fusion Tipped products maintain the terminal performance Federal’s original line is known for but enhance it with features that promote more consistent, lethal expansion. The integration of a skived nose cavity with the polymer tip plays a crucial role in this aspect.

Product specifications:

  • Calibers Available: Ranges from 300 Blackout to 30-06 Sprg.
  • Bullet Weights: Options include 190-grain, 140-grain, 150-grain, 175-grain, and 180-grain, among others.
  • Features: Polymer tip for reduced wind drift and drop, skived nose cavity for consistent expansion.
  • Ballistic Improvement: Enhanced ballistic coefficient and flattened trajectories for improved accuracy and range.
  • Pricing: 20-count boxes, priced between $44.99 and $81.99, vary by cartridge.

The Fusion Tipped ammunition’s initial offerings encompass several calibers and weights: 300 BLK 190-grain, 6.5 PRC 140-grain, 6.5 Creedmoor 140-grain, 270 Win. 150-grain, 7MM Rem. Mag. 175-grain, 7MM PRC 175-grain, 308 Win. 180-grain, 30-06 Sprg. 180-grain, and 300 Win. Mag. 180-grain. The introduction of these products reflects Federal Ammunition’s ongoing commitment to innovation, catering to the needs of hunters and shooters who demand precision and extended-range capabilities from their ammunition.

Remington announced the expansion of their Core-Lokt Tipped line of ammunition. This update includes the introduction of five new loads, broadening the range to encompass hot new cartridges such as 360 Buckhammer, 6.5 PRC, 7MM PRC, and 300 PRC, alongside the classic 7mm-08 Remington. The addition of these rounds brings the total offerings within the Core-Lokt Tipped line to 14 calibers and 18 load options, enhancing the selection available to hunters and marksmen.

“Remington is excited to kick off the new year with new Core-Lokt Tipped,” said Remington’s Director of Centerfire Product Affairs Kris Carson. “We are proud to add award-winning 360 Buckhammer to our Core-Lokt Tipped line and offer hunters a wider range of options to suit their specific needs and preferences. Core-Lokt Tipped’s smashing success shows hunters around the world have embraced the new generation of the Deadly Mushroom.”

The introduction of Core-Lokt Tipped in 2021 represented a significant enhancement, combining advanced accuracy technologies with the traditional effectiveness Core-Lokt is celebrated for. The integration of the Big Green Tip and a new boat-tail design into these rounds optimizes aerodynamics and accuracy over long distances without compromising the ammunition’s traditional terminal performance.

Remington UMC Leadless

Remington Ammunition also unveiled the UMC Leadless cartridges. The new offerings encompass 9MM Luger and 223 Remington rounds, designed to meet the needs of shooters who frequent lead-restricted ranges or regions.

UMC Leadless cartridges are specifically crafted to provide the same performance and accuracy that enthusiasts expect from traditional UMC Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) ammunition. The introduction of these lead-free rounds signifies Remington’s commitment to innovation and adaptability in the face of changing regulations and customer preferences. Kris Carson, Remington’s Director of Centerfire Ammunition Products, emphasized the significance of this launch, highlighting the engineering team’s success in creating lead-free ammunition that matches the performance of conventional rounds, allowing shooters to enjoy their shooting experience without compromise.

This initiative by Remington addresses a growing demand for shooting options in areas where lead usage is restricted due to environmental or health concerns. The introduction of UMC Leadless cartridges with a jacketed lead-free powdered metal core, along with the Catalyst lead-free primer, showcases Remington’s focus on eliminating lead components in its ammunition while maintaining high standards of accuracy and performance.

Hesitant to buy anything from a Vista company due to their price gouging and markups on primers/powder and everything else they sell. And also for that press release last year to try and induce panic buying. That was a dick move.

The apparent lack of cannelure on that Fusion bullet design has jacket separation all over it, so I hope that's not a problem for whoever uses it.
