Speer Ammunition is known for crafting some superbly high-quality and lethal ammo by the way of their Gold Dot hollow-points in both rifle and handgun offerings. This is evident by the numerous military and law enforcement contracts that they have garnered over the years, and they can add another one to that list. The Miami-Dade Police Department has struck a Duty Ammunition Contract with Speer for their Law Enforcement 9mm 124-grain +P and .223 Rem 75-grain Gold Dot ammo.

Speer Ammunition @ TFB:

LEWISTON, Idaho – October 4, 2023 – Speer was recently awarded Law Enforcement ammunition contracts from the Miami-Dade Police Department in Florida. The 9mm duty handgun ammunition contract is for Speer Law Enforcement 124-grain +P Gold Dot, and the 223 Rem. duty rifle ammunition contract is for 75-grain Speer Gold Dot.

“Miami-Dade is the eighth largest police department in the United States with approximately 3,500 officers. We are extremely proud of this important contract award,” said Steven Jenkins, Senior Law Enforcement Sales Specialist for Speer. “It validates the high level of trust that our nation’s law enforcement agencies have with our extremely reliable and innovative products.”

Designed to deliver the high performance today’s law enforcement officers demand. Each Speer LE Gold Dot bullet is individually engineered to provide shot-to-shot uniformity and ensure optimum performance when fired through a variety of barriers. The result is a cartridge that provides officers the ultimate defense in lethal force confrontations.

Find Speer Gold Dot Ammo

It should come as no surprise that the Miami-Dade Police Department will now rely on Speer Gold Dot ammunition considering many of us simple folks are deploying Gold Dot hollow-points for our everyday carry (EDC) handguns as well. For me, personally, it is either Speer Gold Dot or Federal HST; nothing else. Feel free to debate me in the Comments. You might change my mind, or maybe not. As always, let us know all of your thoughts regarding Speer and their ammunition in the Comments below as well. We always appreciate the feedback.

Wonder what they were using before. Winchester Ranger?

@Docduracoat FWIW, when Lucky Gunner tested the Ranger-T in .380 from a G42 (let alone the slightly shorter .380 barrels that are most commonly carried these days) at an average of 82 fps lower than Winchester's test, it completely failed to expand. That might be preferable; a hollow point that fails to expand may do more overall tissue damage than either a pointier FMJ or a hollow point that doesn't penetrate deeply enough to hit vital organs.
