POTD: The IPSC Rifle World Shoot 2024 Boomstick
Are you looking to shoot the IPSC Rifle World Shoot 2024? Or just need some inspiration for your next build? In this Photo Of The Day, you will find a suggestion of ingredients and parts to use. The competition is most likely to be hosted by Finland, in northern Finland in fact.
Previous IPSC Rifle World Shoots have been in Russia (Nr 1) and Sweden (Nr 2), which TFB has covered in these articles: Rifle World Shoot Russia 2017 – TFB wins Bronze and Rifle World Shoot 2019 Sweden – Part I.
Here’s Mikael “St.Michael” Schelén‘s parts list if you want to make your own build:
New boomstick!!! This will be my go to rifle for next season and the coming World Shoot.I put this one together using:
– @ironcityrifle reciever, handguard, grip and BCG.– @proofresearch 16” carbon fiber wrapped barrel (.223 wylde, 1:8 twist, intermediate gas length).– @unrivaled_technologies UB-556 compensator and 2-stage dead blow competition buffer.– @slrrifleworks Sentry 7 adjustable gas block.– @smokecomposites carbon fiber buffertube– @uronenprecision Modular trigger, charging handle and safety selector.– @spuhr SP-4022C ISMS that is prepped for the new @kahles.sportshooting K18i-2.This rifle is significally lighter than my previous one and the well tuned gas system cycles faster while still keeping the rifle super flat with the Unrivaled compensator and progressive buffer.I will be using @hornadymfg 52gr Match ammunition on most most distances and use Hornady Superperformance 75gr on longer distances and heavy steel.(For that extra oumph)The rifle is coated with @cerakote Elite by @lexcoating
Now all that is left is the Kahles K18i-2 and a cheek riser for the minimalist stock… and we are good to go!!!
For more on the previous K18i, check out the following article: TFB Review: Kahles K18i Riflescope with IPSC Reticle (incl. Comparison).
What do you think of the build? Perfect, or are the things you’d change?

The goal is the least amount of perceived recoil with the best accuracy possible..The ammo, SLR adj gas block and muzzle compensator choice was good, but the other rifle choices are very subjective..I prefer a little weight for balance, instead of searching for the Holy grail of the ultimate Styrofoam rifle. I have never seen any magnet buffer out perform a hydrolic for mitigating perceived recoil when the rifle was tuned properly. In fact I still prefer the older Endine buffer. Good luck finding one today..Matching the recoil spring/adjusted gas/buffer/muzzle compensator with the ammunition is what makes or breaks a really good competition rifle..
My choice would be:
Rifle Speed adj gas block as it is a lot easier to adjust to changing environment/ ammunition swaps (needs less maintenance, custom tunable, stronger and easier to service ) than any other adj gas block available..
Endine buffer with a Sprinco yellow reduced power spring
American Gold or Geissele competition trigger. I run both very well
Criterion or any proven barrel that meets accuracy/chamber requirements
Standard micro slick- gauged carrier-no light weight carrier for me
Matched SOLGW receiver set with the upper carrier channel micro slick
Vltor (standard) receiver extension with a Magpul moe grip and CTR stock
50,000 rounds of ammunition for practice
A very interesting rifle.
