I'm probably gonna catch some flak for this, but is it asking too much for them to make a scout version of this? Just to be clear, it's not really about the scout rifle concept to me as it is about the aesthetics of a light, compact bolt action rifle.

These look great, but I think they would look better in a scout rifle configuration. Just my two cents.

@TDog I don't know how soon you'd be looking to move, but Brownell's has a number of the Howa barreled actions on sale right now.

I have a Tikka T3X UPR .308 which I am in love with - absolutely in love with ... (Just to explain my thought-process ... When I was younger and had more money and certainly no restraint in 'wasting it', I had a rig I spent 3-4x the cost of the rifle painstakingly upgrading it piece by piece, upgrading it , customizing it etc. - the UPR was designed by Tikka to give a person interested in either PRS, Hunting, or [in my case] 'Tactical applications' [my words, I'm trying not to say building a half-aced 'Sniper Rifle' because I know when you say 'Sniper Rifle' you immediately sound like a feminine hygienic product...] ... so the Tikka T3X UPR allows you to buy a rifle and out of the box, it's just about perfect, nothing you really need to do. HAVING SAID ALL THAT, I would have seriously considered this rifle ... it's about 50% cheaper than the Tikka, and while I love that Finnish silky smooth sexiness, I have to admit I have a lot of respect for "German Engineering & Japanese Precision" [I have a Japanese scope on my rifle...] and this rifle seems to check all the boxes right out of the box as well... [other than a rail... I think mine came with a [high-quality] 20MOA rail, this one doesn't, but if you have to nitpick, you're probably doing alright here .... Anyway long post just to say, I myself think this is pretty sweet, *ESPECIALLY* with both the barrel choices and stock colors. I'd go Heavy Barrel Green.

@Ser Arthur Dayne It uses Vanguard rings. Or at least the minis do. I am pretty sure the full size 1500s use the same rings. I have a mini in 22" std .223 and 20" HBAR 6.5 grendel. Excellent rifles. I have an older Sako Forester in .308. It is in most ways a nicer rifle. But it didn't cost $350-450. The grendel I got as a complete rifle for $450, plus $44 rings and a Sig Whiskey 3 3-9x40 scope. Shoots well under MOA with handloads, 5 shot groups. Factory ammo it toys with 1MOA. Mostly at or under. So for Basically $600 for an awesome hunting rig (its my go to deer rifle)...

The .223 was a barreled action for $350 on sale. Picked up the same stock used as my grendel for $80. I had a 4-12x40 Bushnell Engage scope laying around. It battles with the Grendel for accuracy. Not sure which is more accurate. I've spent too much time trying to get RMR 69gr handloads to shoot in to a quarter and they just won't. Best I can achieve is 1.5MOA 5 shot groups, and that's on a good day. I ran 55gr Sierra tipped and 69gr SMK and....well under MOA. Especially the 55gr. The bolt and action fit was NOT proper from the factory though. Lockup was insanely tight. For $350, I was willing to work on it. Some bore paste on the lugs and ran it (needing to use a rubber mallet to open and close the action at first. A tiny one, like 8oz). Then some 600 grit lapping compound and ran it about 200 times. Cleaned it, oiled it, and its almost as smooth as the Grendel. Just very slightly heavier bolt lift and drop.

I've been eyeing a grown up Howa 1500 in a full size cartridge at some point. I love my Sako, but I don't think I'll thread it. A 24" .308 that is threaded would be really nice. Bench use, not sure I'd use it hunting unless it was on my own land some day where I don't need to hump it possibly a few miles up and down hills.
