Smith & Wesson Announces Shotgun – The New M&P12

Meet Smith & Wesson's newest addition to their M&P series, the M&P12 shotgun.

Smith & Wesson‘s M&P series has seen significant success and tremendous expansion over the years. Although it’s best known for striker-fired handguns, including some of the market’s best-selling everyday carry/concealed carry-intended pistols along with some duty models, they’ve dabbled in some long guns as well. If you’re an adherent of the S&W brand and like the AR platform, they offer M&P rifles in 5.56mm NATO/.223 Remington, .22 Long Rifle, 7.62×51/.308 Winchester, and 6.5 Creedmoor. Now the M&P family is expanding yet again, this time into new territory. Meet the new M&P12 shotgun.

The M&P12 is a pump-action bullpup 12-gauge shotgun with two tubular magazines. Although this new scattergun was only announced this morning, August 17th, quite a few social media commenters have been quick to compare it with Kel-Tec’s established similar offering, the KSG. While Kel-Tec’s version tends to be a bit polarizing in the firearms community, it has sold many units for years now, using a similar style and configuration as the new M&P12. With plenty of fans of both the bullpup shotgun format and the Smith & Wesson brand, no doubt this acclaimed American firearms maker expects that more than a few of these new guns will sell as well. Smith & Wesson's new bullpup scattergun can hold six or seven rounds (depending on the length of the shell, 2 and 3/4" vs 3") in each of its two tubular magazines, for a maximum 14 +1 capacity.
