Brazil Orders 159,000 Beretta APX Pistols

Viva Italia! Brazilian Law Enforcement agencies have ordered up to 159,000 units of Beretta’s APX striker-fired semi-automatic pistol. The pistol is going to be used by the National Public Security Force and the regional police forces of several of Brazil’s 26 states. The contract between Beretta and the Brazilian Ministry of Justice will last over 18 months, with a commitment from Beretta to supply up to 159,000 pistols for a maximum value of 57 million Euros (roughly $69 million USD).

Beretta actually used to produce firearms in Brazil. In 1948 the group’s foreign production began there until the 1970s (Model 92). After that Beretta sold the plants and licenses to Taurus and decided to focus on the United States, which saw the founding of Beretta USA.

The new Beretta APX semiautomatic pistol, utilizing a removable, serialized chassis frame, can be easily modified with replaceable grip frame housings and is simple to disassemble and maintain. Ease of use was the key driver in the development of the APX.
The APX’s extremely low profile, snag free, design makes it easy to carry and draw from the holster. To accommodate right or left-handed use, the APX’s magazine release button can be easily reversed. The light, durable grip frame housing employs modern thermoplastic technology through the use of fiberglass reinforced technopolymer.

Beretta have some good pictures explaining the function of the APX.

A little over a year ago the Polish Policja (Police) decided to go with the Beretta APX as well, ordering about 5,000 units. The Swedish Police is currently looking for a new service pistol for 2020-21, and the Beretta APX and the Beretta PX4 are some of the handguns on their list.

Have you tried the Beretta APX? What do you think of it?
