The big draw at Lancer Systems’ range day lane was of course the 9x19mm Laugo Alien pistol which they’re importing from the Czech Republic. They had a table absolutely full of them and it was a blast to finally put some rounds through one after reading about them for so long.

Alien Encounters

While I was surprised that the flip reduction of the Alien wasn’t greater it was impressive and certainly a pleasant shooting pistol, the gas-delayed blowback action and the low bore axis is a thing of beauty and the pistol feels extremely comfortable in the hand and points very naturally. At their SHOT Show booth Lancer Systems illustrated one of the additional benefits of this low axis of the Alien’s fixed barrel by fitting it with a suppressor – the bore is so low that it does not require suppressor height sights when fitted with a can.

The 12 o’clock removable top rail for switching out optics and sight set ups (and of course disassembly) is a clever idea and one which is quick to use. The pistol is entering the US market with an MSRP of $5,000, which may make most buyers pause for thought but these are collectors Signature Edition pistols – only 500 of these are being produced, with each numbered pistol bearing the engraved signature of famed firearms designer, Jan Lucansky. The L15 Defense

Another item on display was the new Lancer System L15 Defense patrol ready rifle in a configuration which has been developed based on feedback and input from Pennsylvania’s State Police. Lancer System have not only just won a magazine contract with Pennsylvania State Police but the have also just had the L15 accepted as a rifle cleared for duty use and purchase by state police. The rifle, in the Pennsylvania State Police set up, has a 14.5in barrel and runs a SIG Romeo 5 red dot.

The rifle has B5 Bravo adjustable stock and BCM Gunfighter pistol grip, a flared magwell to enable faster reloads and Lancer’s LCH5 carbon fibre MLOK handguard. The basic configuration, with a 16in barrel is currently available from Lancer with an MSRP of $1,295, while the L15 Defense package with SIG Romeo 5 and a Streamlight Pro-Tac weapon light comes in at $1,899.

Someone needs to pick up the Laugo for mass production, like CZ did with their Scorpion EVO design. If CZ themselves continue that relationship and buy this, I bet their Dan Wesson subsidiary could make it at very high quality for $2k or less.

Well, it's nice to see Czechoslovakia back in business after 30 years of slacking off. Czechia and Slovakia just got some serious competition...
