POTD: Royal Australian Artillery Fires a M777 Lightweight Howitzer

Photo Of The Day, and we take a look at the 103:rd Battery, 8th/12th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery as they fire an M777 lightweight howitzer during Exercise Koolendong at the Mount Bundey Training Area.

The photographer really managed to freeze the 155 mm grenade mid-air, just as it leaves the barrel.

Exercise KOOLENDONG 2019 was a live-fire warfighting activity conducted by about 1700 soldiers and marines from Marine Rotational Force – Darwin (MRF-D), the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and the French Armed Forces of New Caledonia (FANC).

I can only imagine the heat in this place, and I’m sure there are lots of dangerous reptiles just waiting to take a bite out of you.

Exercise Koolendong enhances MRF-D and ADF readiness and interoperability to respond to regional crises.
