POTD: German Snipers with the G22

In today’s Photo Of The Day here at TFB, we look at what the German Snipers have achieved during one of the exercises.

As Main Battle Tanks roll across the grounds of the Munster / Bergen Training Area, side by side with allied forces of others Nations, the snipers are hiding in their well-prepared hideouts.

A spotter and a sniper usually need a lot of preparations and sometimes days or weeks of patience to be successful.

Below: The spotter closes the entrance of the sniper position.

From here they can operate without being seen. The G22, or Gewehr 22 (Rifle), is an AI AWM-F (AI-Arctic Warfare Magnum) chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum. (7.62 × 67 mm).

Below: A gridded self-drawn map of the area serves for orientation and exact communication between the sniper and the spotter. Note the aiming points in the terrain and the distances. What do you think, up to which distances can snipers work?

According to the Bundeswehr, the effective range is up to 1,100 m (1,203 yards) with the setup.
