Hornady Adds .350 Legend To American Whitetail Ammo Line

    Hornady American Whitetail 350 Legend

Hornady is expanding their horizons with the new .350 Legend hunting cartridge in their American Whitetail hunting ammunition line.  The new cartridge will be loaded with 170 grain  InterLock®  bullets.  Hornady describes their Interlock bullets below:

InterLock® bullets feature exposed lead tips for controlled expansion and hard-hitting terminal performance. Bullets used in American Whitetail®ammunition feature our pioneering secant ogive design and exclusive InterLock® ring — a raised ring inside the jacket that is embedded in the bullet’s core that keeps the core and jacket locked together during expansion to retain mass and energy.

The .350 Legend American Whitetail cartridges will come in 20 round boxes, with 200 round cases available as well. In a quick internet search, I found boxes for sale between $19.79 to $21.99. I was unable to find any velocities listed on Hornady’s website, nor on any of the vendor’s websites.  Hornady states that this load is best for medium game weighing 50-300 pounds. Hornady’s product number is 81196 and you can view their website HERE. The picture below is a cutaway diagram of Hornady’s InterLock bullet design. For those that have used these in other calibers, how well have they held together for you?

If you’ll recall the initial SHOT Show announcement from January of this year, the .350 Legend was reported to retain 900 ft-lbs of energy and penetrate up to 11.7 inches of ballistics gel at 200 yards. When Winchester first announced the .350 Legend, they said that bullets could ideally range from 145-265 grain. However, the information stating the energy output and penetration didn’t cite which bullet weight or velocity provided the statistics.
