The Sheriff’s Department of Lake County, Indiana has selected the compact MP9 submachine gun form B&T, presumably for issuing to their Tactical Unit (S.W.A.T). The Lake County Sheriff’s Department has an 18 strong tactical unit who are “available to assist local, state and federal agencies throughout the Northwest Indiana area.” Lake County is Indiana’s second largest county and includes the cities of Hammond and Gary.

The MP9 has a side folding stock, and has an overall length of just 30cm or 11.8 inches and weighs in at 3.7 lbs with a 30 round magazine and red dot sight. It has a full-length top rail and a right side forward rail. It has a cyclic rate of over 1,000 rounds per minute. B&T note that the “MP9-N is currently in service with close protection teams as well as with SWAT teams worldwide. It is also a perfect choice as a Personal Defense Weapon (PDW).”

Here’s B&T USA’s brief statement on the adoption:

The Lake County Indiana Sheriff’s Department has chosen B&T USA to provide a compact concealable submachine gun platform to equip a group of its officers. The Department selected the B&T MP9 9mm SMG due to its flexibility to fulfill all mission requirements from uniformed warrant service to plain clothes undercover operations.

“The MP9 met Lake County’s requirements through a combination of its compact size, accurate high rate of fire, reliability, and configurability. The MP9 can be deployed from a variety of drop leg, belt, and shoulder holsters and has the ability to accept a suppressor,” stated Jon Scott, Vice President of Sales, B&T USA.

Lake City officers equipped with the MP9 will join a club that also includes the French Secret Service’s Presidential protection detail and Indian Army special forces. The order for an undisclosed number of MP9s will be fulfilled by B&T USA.
