Expanding upon their popular Syntech Range line of ammunition, Federal Premium has added three calibers for your shooting pleasure. The Syntech Range line now includes .38 SPL, 10mm Auto, and .380 ACP. If you’ve been hiding in the woods and are unfamiliar with Syntech, TFB has written numerous articles to bring you up to speed. In short, Federal Syntech is designed (with the use of their Catalyst primers) to lessen lead exposure, which is one of the biggest health risks involved with shooting. All three calibers use the TSJ polymer jacket to keep metal fouling to a minimum. To further the cause of safe range ammo, the bullets themselves are designed to minimize splashback from steel targets.

Now before we trigger a bunch of millennials here, I too, had overlooked Federal Premium Syntech ammunition (and technically I am a millennial… sadly). So what is so special about Syntech ammunition? It has a red coated bullet. It is affectionately or un-affectionately called the “lipstick” ammo. Finally, if you check out a United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) match, you will see it everywhere. What do they know that the general shooter is missing? Well, Syntech offers a host of benefits over traditional full-metal jacket (FMJ) ammunition and we will take a look at those benefits.

Federal Ammunition is pleased to introduce all-new Syntech Action Pistol, the official ammunition of the USPSA. Shooters who compete at the highest levels need ammunition built for the demands of their discipline. Syntech Action Pistol is specifically designed for the action shooting sports and loaded to power factor requirements with heavy, flatter-nosed bullets for more reliable knock-downs on steel targets in competition. Shipments are being delivered to dealers.

Federal Premium is one of the largest ammunition manufacturers throughout the world and is often one of the most sought after as well. From weekend range warriors to the men and women that serve and protect our country, Federal Premium makes ammunition for everybody. Very recently they were awarded a domestic ammunition contract to supply the US Naval Surface Warfare Center – Crane Divison, operated under the U.S. Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command. This ammunition contract was in the amount of $20 Million over the course of 5 years. The contract begins this year in 2018 and they are expected to deliver .40 S&W frangible rounds, specifically with Federal Premium’s lead-free Catalyst high-performance primer.

Federal Premium has tweaked the secret sauce on their recipe for Syntech ammunition to better suit competition shooters. They have paired up with the USPSA to design Syntech Action Pistol. This flavor of ammunition employs a Total Synthetic Jacket (TSJ) bullet in more reliable grain weights for knocking down steel targets. It also has a flat point to the TSJ as opposed to the traditional conical or round tip found on standard Full-Metal Jacket (FMJ) rounds.

Within the last few weeks Federal has announced a couple different varieties of bullets they are selling as reloading components. This is a first for them and has surprised a lot of us since they normally stick to loaded ammunition, primers and brass. It is definitely not something outside the scope of their abilities as an ammunition manufacturer. It is simply something that they have not attempted to dabble in before.

Federal has announced two different component bullets now available for handloaders within the last week. The 2nd one being their unique Syntech bullet that is encapsulated in polymer. Could this be a trend towards Federal attacking the reloading bullets market?… Time will definitely tell. For now, we will take a look at the Syntech bullet now available as a component for reloaders.
