[SHOT 2019] Krebs Custom 9×39 AK-9 Pistol Prototype spotted at WOLF
While visiting the Wolf ammunition booth at SHOT 2019, I noticed a very unique OD green AK pistol on the wall with a Gear Head Works PSB attached to it. This wasn’t just any AK pistol, it was a Krebs Custom. Not just any Krebs AK, it was a prototype AK-9 pistol in 9×39 with a custom made magazine! Leave it to Mark Krebs to have a working prototype to use Wolf’s 9×39 ammo.
Krebs Custom Retires the KeyMod and Introduces an M-LOK AK Handguard
Krebs Custom has introduced a new AK handguard set with M-LOK accessory attachment slots. We are used to seeing this company’s rails with KeyMod. In order to find out whether this new model means a launch of an entire line of M-LOK handguards or is it going to be a single model, I contacted Krebs Custom. It turns out that Krebs Custom plans to completely switch to M-LOK on all their products!
Krebs Custom Interchangeable Muzzle System (IMS)
Krebs Custom Interchangeable Muzzle System (IMS) for AK rifles is now available through their website at $90. It allows to have 16.25″ barrel length and still be able to attach different muzzle devices without significantly increasing the overall length (except when used with suppressors). The system consists of a base device which is a four prong flash hider, and a closed-end “birdcage” compensator. The base flash hider must be pinned on the barrel to extend 14.5″ barrel length to 16.25″. It also features external threads and a built-in AK-style plunger detent to host the compensator and other muzzle devices.
Liberty Suppressor's A-KAOTIC
Liberty Suppressors is now selling a .30 caliber sound suppressor called the A-KOTIC. Although available as a separate piece, the A-KAOTIC was designed in conjunction with Krebs Custom and can be had as a suppressor and rifle package.
Magpul AK Furniture, a long term report
For the last few months, I have been using Magpul AK polymer furniture on my Kalashnikov rifle. The Magpul polymers transformed my Krebs special edition Early Afgan War pattern AK74 to something a bit more modern looking.
Krebs Custom Assneck carbine
Military Arms Channel has has a good article covering one of the prototypes of the Assneck carbine from Krebs Custom. I ran into it at Bullpup 2015, and talked with Marc Krebs about it and it was pretty interesting. He would not divulge the meaning behind the name though, just saying it was a nickname for a close friend that had meant alot to his family. Anyways, it’s an SBR in 7.62×39 and 5.56×45 (uses AR magazines) built on Saiga receivers with an AR type folding stock, picatinny rail in place of the standard rear sight, with an actual rear sight mounted to the receiver cover. Keymod handguard rail, with another picatinny rail on top of that, and comes with their standard muzzle device with a protective cone that screws on around it. They also have this slab sided piece of metal that facilitates magazine reloads and covers the right side of the mag well. All their models also include the AK safety bolt hold open slot as well. Apart from the actual build and it feeling like an AK tank in my hands, one of the more innovating features Krebs is bringing to the table is his SpeedLoad system (note, this is only for the 7.62×39 variants). Through that, not only is the magazine release extended and can be activated with the trigger finger, but Krebs has had the genius idea of placing a small lever just above the magazine release, that kicks out the magazine. Bear in mind that this system isn’t exclusive to the Assneck, as it has appeared on a very small amount of AK platforms but with very little success. In addition, I think if Krebs just sold the Speedload system as itself an aftermarket accessory, they’d have alot of people interested because it alone really improves the handling characteristics of the rifle and could be installed on multiple AK platforms. I kind of had to film it, in order to fully demonstrate it.
RS Regulate AK Optic mounts
Recently, I was interviewed by my friend and gun author Robert Kay for his book on how to buy an AK. Bob asked me for a recommendation on an AK optic mount for one of his books chapters. Without hesitation, I said any of the RS Regulate’s AK-300 series of receiver side-rail optic mounts.
