Poland’s elite counter terrorism unit, Jednostka Wojskowa GROM (JW GROM) are set to procure more M134 Miniguns. In a contract award notice published 12 December, it was confirmed that Poland would purchase a small, but unspecified, number of M134s.

The Polish special forces have used M134s since 2013, and frequently deploy them on M1165A1 HMMWV and RIB rigid-inflatable boats. The M134 can also be mounted in fixed and crew served positions on aircraft. In the past the Polish army has reportedly purchased M134Gs made by Garwood Industries, these were mounted as door guns on Mi-17 helicopters.

Milmag reports, however, that the miniguns will be purchased from Dillon Aero with the single source contract confirmed to be worth 2,669,715 PLN (roughly $743,275). The contract notice does not specify if weapons mounts, also made by Dillon Aero, will be included in the contract. Milmag also report that Special Operations Squadron 7 will be the recipients of the new miniguns.

The M134D, made by Dillon Aero is an updated version of the minigun originally developed in the early 1960s by General Electric. It is a formidable weapon chambered in 7.62x51mm and capable of firing up to 3,000 rounds per minute.
