Our Photo Of The Day can be chosen for a variety of reasons. It may be because of its aesthetic qualities, its newsworthiness, its emotional impact, or its technical excellence. Above you see a U.S. Marine, a rifleman with the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, as he fires his M4A1 carbine at a notional enemy. This happened during a small boat raid course hosted by Expeditionary Operations Training Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, in 2023.
