Photo Of The Day – We visit the Austrian Jägerbattalion of the Bundesheer. These soldiers are on the next step of becoming squad leaders, in one of their rounds of cadre candidate training. Their main firearm is of course the Steyr AUG bullpup rifle or the StG 77 (Sturmgewehr 77) as it’s called in the Austrian Army.

The Steyr AUG uses a riflescope made by Swarovski. It has a 1.5x power magnification and the scope is integrated into the receiver. There are some basic iron sights on top of the riflescope in case the main tube is broken. One of the perks with the Steyr AUG is that you can easily switch the barrel, it’s very fast.

Anti-tank fighting is also part of the training. This is the Panzerabwehrrohr 66/79 (PAR 66/79), otherwise known as Carl Gustav 84 mm recoilless rifle.

All photos were taken by Robert Gießauf.

Have you ever tried shooting the 84 mm or the Steyr AUG?
