Springfield Armory has announced two new 15-round versions of their Echelon handgun.

Springfield Armory released a new handgun model in mid-2023, the modern striker-fired Echelon. Last year’s launch of the series included standard models with a 17-round and a 20-round magazine, available with either three-dot iron sights or a U-dot rear sight, as well as a threaded barrel model and a low-capacity 10-round version for restricted state compliance. Now in 2024, Springfield is expanding the lineup with two more variants: 15-round models in each of the two iron sight options. Get more details on this newest pair of additions to Springfield’s striker-fired handgun family in their recent press release, copied below.

Springfield Armory® Announces Release of 15-Round Variant of the Echelon™ 9mm

GENESEO, ILL. (01/04/24) – Springfield Armory® is proud to announce the release of a 15-round variant of the Echelon™ 9mm pistol. This new offering provides those in locales requiring restricted capacities an opportunity to own a duty-ready 9mm that sets an unparalleled standard for modern, striker-fired pistols.

At the heart of the Echelon lies the patent-pending Central Operating Group. Employing cutting-edge manufacturing techniques, this modular system is an entirely self-contained and serialized stainless steel chassis. The result is a system that is easily moved between available grip modules in seconds.

For maximum adaptability to the widest range of users, the chassis can be installed in any Echelon grip module, allowing shooters to configure a firearm that fits perfectly. The pistol comes standard with the medium grip size and three interchangeable backstraps, while small and large grip modules can be purchased separately.

Further adding to the Echelon’s adaptability is its truly innovative Variable Interface System. This system employs patent-pending self-locking pins that exert lateral pressure on the optic’s interior mounting surface for consistent and reliable point of aim/point of impact. In addition, the pins can be positioned to fit the footprints of more than 30 popular optics, allowing for an unparalleled direct-mount fit.

The 15-round Echelon is offered with either U-Dot™ tritium/luminescent sights or three-dot tritium sights. The accuracy performance of the pistol is ensured by the hammer-forged 4.5” barrel. The Echelon’s two included 15-round magazines are designed for rugged durability, hard use and reliable operation. They feature a blacked-out, scratch- and wear-resistant coating.

“The Echelon was engineered from the ground up to be today’s most advanced striker-fired pistol,” says Steve Kramer, Springfield Armory’s Vice President of Marketing. “And now with this new 15-round version, it’s available to an even broader range of shooters.”

With an MSRP of $679 for the U-Dot variant and $719 for the three-dot tritium version, the 15-round Echelon 9mm offers shooters a pistol engineered with superior ergonomics and built to withstand the harshest conditions. The Echelon from Springfield Armory – Unparalleled.

These two new SKUs bring the series up to five models so far and don’t be surprised if more could be added in the future. Interestingly, the URL for the series landing page on Springfield’s website ends in the string “echelon-45-9mm-handgun/”. Could this indicate that a .45ACP version is planned for the future? There’s no official word on this so far, so only time will tell. Have you gotten hands-on with one of these 9mm handguns yet, and if so, what did you think of it? Do you like the idea of these new 15-round models? Would you like to see a .45 option or any other models? What direction would you like to see Springfield go with the lineup next? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below! See you at the range.
