Sturm, Ruger, & Company was founded by William B. Ruger and Alexander McCormick Sturm in 1949, using a small rented machine shop in Southport, Connecticut. Since launching their first pistol 75 years ago, the .22-caliber “Ruger Standard” which led to a series of some of the most successful rimfire handguns in history, the company has grown to be one of the largest and most popular firearms manufacturers in the world. Throughout 2024, they will be commemorating their 75th anniversary with some special editions of several of their products. One of these will be a Diamond Anniversary Limited Edition SR1911 pistol. Diamond Anniversary Limited Edition SR1911 Pistol
January 03, 2024
Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) will be celebrating its 75th year as an American firearms manufacturer throughout 2024. To commemorate this event, the Company will be releasing special editions of several of its iconic products.
First introduced in 2011 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Government Model 1911, the stainless Ruger® SR1911® has earned numerous awards as one of the best completely American-made 1911-type pistols.
The diamond anniversary edition of this iconic pistol will be produced in limited numbers and features an attractive, finely detailed, laser-engraved slide that commemorates Ruger’s 75th Anniversary and salutes our pride in American craftsmanship. The custom grip panels feature detailed scrollwork to match the engraved slide. Each pistol ships in a specially marked 75th Anniversary lockable case with one 7-round and one 8-round stainless steel magazine.
The SR1911 includes many desirable features such as a titanium firing pin, extended thumb safety, extended magazine release, oversized beavertail grip safety and a visual inspection port to allow visual confirmation of a round in the chamber. The plunger tube for both the slide stop and thumb safety is integral to the frame and will never shoot loose. The SR1911 uses a skeletonized hammer and an aluminum, skeletonized trigger with an adjustable over-travel stop.
Only 750 of the Anniversary SR1911’s will be produced during 2024 and will be identifiable by a special “R75” serial number prefix. See your local independent firearms retailer to reserve yours today.

Ruger has assigned an MSRP of $1799 to this limited-edition 1911. Unsurprisingly for a special limited-run model, that puts this Diamond Anniversary gun toward the higher end of their 1911s’ price range, which starts at an MSRP of $799 for the standard full-size 9mm model number 6794. At the time of this writing, the only versions in the range Ruger lists on their website that are more expensive are Ruger’s two Competition models, numbers 6766 for 9mm and 6776 for .45ACP. These carry respective MSRPs of $2849 and 2499. However, production has ceased on these two versions, making the Diamond Anniversary gun the priciest Ruger 1911 currently manufactured. What do you think of it, readers? Do you like this new limited edition, and will you be purchasing one when they ship out later this year? Have you tried any other Ruger 1911s, and how do you like those? Let us know in the comments below! See you at the range.
