POTD: The AKS-74U – Rifle Dynamics

    AKS-74U Rifle Dynamics

A new dawn, new possibilities and another Photo Of The Day. Today we have an AKS-74U with a three-color beach frog skin triangle pouch from Rifle Dynamics.

I really love the look of the AKS-74U, and its fascinating history rooted in the Soviet Union’s military development. In the late 1970s, the Soviet Armed Forces sought a compact firearm for specialized units such as paratroopers, vehicle crews, and Special Forces. The aim was to provide a more maneuverable and versatile weapon without compromising firepower.

Introduced in the early 1980s, the AKS-74U featured a shorter barrel and a folding stock, making it highly compact and suitable for close-quarters combat. Its distinctive appearance has made it a favorite among collectors and enthusiasts like myself. Although completely different, it reminds me of a Heckler & Koch MP5K PDW in some ways.

It’s old now, but the AKS-74U continues to maintain its place in history as a compact powerhouse. I probably shouldn’t get one (I wish I could!), or even shoot one.

With this POTD, I think it’s safe to say that this ever-lasting series of articles came to a pretty strong first week of the New Year.
